Prayer bulletin for year 2019

Topic: I’m going higher

Don’t be a poor self-image or else you will not experience God’s best; but see yourself as one whom God had destined from creation to be great (spiritually, physically and financially). If you don’t down play yourself, no one or power can down play you because, your uplifting, your promotion, your breakthrough, your victory, your progress, your success or your achievement has been determined.

The scripture states

‘For the Lord of hosts has purposed,
And who will annul it?
His hand is stretched out,
And who will turn it back?” (Is. 14:27)

Victory, success and promotion belong to God

It is saddening to hear people attributing success to their ability, intelligence or strength, overlooking the fact that God is the source of all victories (1Chro. 14:15). Our strength is in the Lord. True success in life cannot be achieved apart from knowing and doing the will of God.

When faced with threats of life, or difficulty in going higher, consider it not too deep or too big to overcome. The more you are convinced about the difficulty and its bigness, the more you become hopeless and entangled in your own fear. However, when you focus on the Lord to back you up, you will rise above the threats.

Going higher in the new year depends more on your spiritual state, the degree of dependence and obedience to God’s word and instruction; then, you can now exercise your individual strength and wisdom as endowed you by God. Moving up is not automatic, it is like a battle, fight or struggle of life, not won or overcome by physical strength, but by the backing of God’s miraculous intervention.

The Scripture states,

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2Cor. 10:4)

Nearly all the battles won by the Israelites that were recorded in the Bible were won through divine instruction or intervention. The foundation of Christianity is built on the history of the Israelites, the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and that of the apostle doctrine as revealed to them by Christ. Therefore, our weapon to move higher in the new year cannot be different from that of the old.

There are certain goals you have set for yourself and there are dreams you wish to come to pass in year 2019. Achieving these aspirations is you going higher, a step up the ladder of a successful life. Beside these self-wishes, God has in place for you some things greater than your expectation for the new year. God does not want you to be stagnant, but he wants you to progress, moving forward and going higher every moment of your life – growing spiritually, physically and financially.

There are varying aspirations and expectations that may represent your going higher this year; first, view them spiritual and then, exercise your endowed power and ability to do what is necessary to get it done. Some of which can be,

  • Overcoming every spiritual barrier
  • Overcoming every spiritual weakness
  • Overcoming health related issues
  • Having victory in all challenges
  • Having successes in all your undertakings
  • Getting promotion in your place of work
  • Success in courses of your studies
  • Achieving your goal
  • Actualization of your dream
  • Breakthrough in all your quests
  • Freedom from debt
  • And among many others

The Lord Jesus said,

“…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matt. 17:20).

‘I’m going higher’ is a statement of determination, affirming and confirming that you are ready to take the necessary step for a shift from your present position to a better one. This is a good thing to embark upon. However, it just doesn’t happen without going through the just course.

The just course

The just course is the way and will of God. The just course requires physical and spiritual empowerment. The physical in the sense that you need to exercise the power that God has endowed you to move up to the next level; and in the spiritual you need to connect to divine empowerment from above that will help to make the right decision on what and how to exercise your physical ability. Both spiritual and physical empowerment go hand in hand, each component compliments the other.

The scripture states,

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phi. 4:13

Foremost, start going higher this year by committing the year into the hand of God through prayer and fasting. Communicate with God; make known to Him your plan according to His will for the year. Then, wait and listen to Him, His instruction on how to go for it in His way. Now, start going high according to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Spiritual empowerment

Going higher requires exercise of your faith

The defeat of Goliath by David is a great story told in the Bible (1Sam.17).  It demonstrates where faith triumphs above sight. Most human successes in the world have been credited to the abilities of the achievers only and forgetting the role of faith in God as being the enabling power behind those successes. For you to go higher in the New Year, you need the power of God to help you

David brought victuals for his brothers in the camp where the Israelites were fighting the Philistines; however, the visit was for divine purpose. The way up may not be the way you plan this year; however, you must listen to the prompting of the spirit when He directs you.

The difficulty the Israelites were facing in the battlefield was Goliath – a giant who must be defeated before they can have victory. In the same vein, many of you have been battling to progress in life but remain stagnant because of some seen and unseen circumstances. This year you must exercise your faith, come-what-may, you are getting out of stagnation. Exercise your faith in God, faith in yourself and faith in getting to that higher level

In the pursuit of anything in this world, there will be difficulties; it is either we overcome the difficulties, or the difficulties overcome us. However, faith in God propels you to move against any difficulty.

Goliath stood as an obstacle or difficulty before the Israelites, hindering their victory over the Philistines. We envisaged many hurdles to clear before getting moving up to a higher level in life. Every difficulty must be viewed spiritually and tackled physically

Hence, David said,

“The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the Lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this philistine”. (1sam. 17:37)

Has God done great things in your life in the past that can give you the assurance that He cannot fail you and that He will continue to help you? If so, believe, He is leading you to higher ground in Jesus name.

Moreover, David said,

“Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou has defiled”. (1sam.17:45)

You must exercise your faith with boldness and courage to challenge any obstacle in the way of your upward desire. Faith in God is what will deliver into your hand and what you will need to move up the ladder of success.

The scripture states,

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6).

David overcame Goliath not by the way a man will think; he killed Goliath with a stone. Don’t preempt God but follow His instruction and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. What you will need to move up is already in your hand, what you have to do is exercise your faith to activate it by, Fearing God; Trusting in God; Hoping in God; Believing in God and Obeying the word and the directive of God.

You need faith like that of David to kill the Goliath in your way up this year

You need faith like Abraham to receive what you are trusting God for

You need faith like Daniel who by his faith in God, the mouths of lions were shut

You need faith and boldness in God like Caleb not to belittle yourself as grasshopper against the giants to enter your promise land

Going higher requires patience

Faith and patience are two inseparable spiritual virtues to fulfilling God’s promises. Abraham is an example of a man who through faith and patience was able to obtain the promise of the Lord. He waited for 25years from the time of promise to the time Isaac the promised son was born (Gen. 12:4; 21:5).

Sometimes, it takes a bit longer to become successful and be on the top (higher level), but patience, drive and consistency allow for a steady climbing to the higher ground by, Delighting yourself in the Lord; Committing your ways unto the Lord; Waiting on the Lord and Resting in the Lord (Ps.37:3-8)

Going higher requires focusing

At different times and at different point between Egypt and Canaan land, the Israelites encountered natural and human difficulties, among the notable ones are the Red Sea and the Jordan River; lack of provisions; confrontation and opposition.

Difficulties of this nature create fear and unbelief, thus bringing negative thought and distracting attractions, and a change in focus. As believers, let us believe in God and focus on how to be successful by following His directive, He will turn your fear to confidence.

In another scenario, Peter saw the Lord Jesus Christ walking on the water; Peter wanted to do the same. At first, Peter started to walk on the sea, focusing on Jesus who had permitted him to walk. However, immediately he shifted his eyes away from Jesus and beheld the boisterous wind, he started sinking. If he had stayed focused looking onto Jesus Christ and kept on walking, he would not have sunk (Matt. 14:26-30).

What happened to Peter here can deter anyone from going higher. You must not allow circumstances to distract you from focusing. When problem comes your way this year, your focus should not be on the problem, but on where you are going.

A song goes like this,

“Higher, I’m going higher; day by day I’m moving everyday”

To be focus and avoid distraction,

  • Avoid discouragement – do not put your trust in friend or any man
  • Do not allow anxiety
  • Rely on God for life supports – guard the door of your mouth
  • Avoid sentiments.
  • Beware of evil associations and attachments – do not put your confidence in a companion
  • Beware of misinformation or evil report concerning your intention, it slows progress or kill your intention.
  • Put up the right attitude and behavior that is in line with the will of God.
  • Look unto Jesus for help, the author and finisher (perfecter) of our faith (Heb. 12:2).
  • Be positive and avoid being negative

Exercising your physical empowerment

Exercising your physical strength

“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich”. Proverbs 10:4

“The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor”. Proverbs 12:24

I was told a parable long time ago that any pursuit in life is likening to a man who seeks honey from the inside of a rock. He must sharpen his axe well; he must not look at the bruised palm of his hands while striking the rock; he must not groan of the pains received because of the bruises. Finally, he said that after enduring through the rigorous labor and having a breakthrough into the rock and to the beehives, there lies “sweetness”.

The parable illustrates the course of every man on earth; the pursuit of his vision, goal or his undertakings in life is to get better day by day – “going higher”. The way to move higher is not only spiritual, but it also requires mental and physical effort. Otherwise, the achievement will be unrighteous or illegitimate.

In year 2019, work hard and don’t be lazy. Be diligent in whatever you embark to do. When God promised Isaac that He would bless him in Gerra, Isaac did not fold his arm waiting for manna from heaven, but the scripture made us to know that Isaac sow in the land and he reaped in hundred folds. You cannot be lazy and expect to go higher. You need to engage your mental faculty and physically ability. Engage in whatever you can do. As a Christian, you need to pray for divine direction, strategy, strength and empowerment.

  • Don’t be a novice, engage in what you know
  • Avoid greediness – the error of Balaam for profit
  • Avoid over ambition and desperation
  • Avoid evil associates – agents of discouragement and implication.

These unrighteous acts blinded many Christians against Godly progression and eventually lead to stagnation, regression or failure.

Embrace the following righteous acts

  • Put God first in all things before ability
  • Be divinely wise in taking any decision
  • Be diligent and not lazy
  • Be discipline with time and attitude
  • Be prudent in spending
  • Do the right thing at the right time
  • Build on God’s foundation, the word of God
  • Believe in God, believe in yourself, believe in your goal and believe that you are going higher.

Not all that glitters are gold.

Do not look at a business, or what you can do as being small, all it takes for God to prosper you is to bless the work of your hand and multiply your substance.

“Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom” (Gen. 13:12).

Sodom looks good to the eye; guess what is in Sodom, destruction. Most man’s projections and pursuits are like this, they look good at first glance, but the end is destruction. You know who you are, your capability and the right thing to do; be led by the Spirit in all your decisions

There are businesses that will take off slowly and will expand gradually and become big on the long run. Some businesses seem to be fast in the beginning but has no long span. There is no talent, gift or business on earth, by which a person cannot prosper. The most important thing as a Christian is not to engage in anything outside the purpose of God for your life,

You are unique, drive in your lane and do not fret or engage in an unrighteous business. There is the need to engage in what you are good at, what you can do and what you would enjoy doing. Whatever you lay your hand to do, do it well.

  • Magnify and bless the name of the Lord for who He is – praise His holy name in psalms and with praise worship every day. Praising the Lord opens the window of heaven for showers of blessings.

  • Pray against every power, spirit or person that will stand against your going higher this year – principalities, evil powers, rulers of the darkness, and spiritual host in heavenly places; power of divination, enchantment, sorcery; human agent of necromancy, witches/wizard, occultism, evil altar, satanic agents, evil forces, diabolical power, monitoring spirit or spell.
  • Pray for deliverance from any deterrent strategy that may want to work against your going higher in year 2019 – sin, power of sin, misinformation, disobedience, evil attachment, deceptive appearances, evil disaster, destiny changer/snatcher, blessing snatcher, power of lust, power of negativism, power of incrimination, power of the enemy, cage of the enemy, entrapment/snare, evil forces/works, power of darkness, seen/unseen powers, power of death, premature death, tentacles of satanic network, trouble, secret faults, power of grave, secret counsel of the wicked, blood guilt, storms of life, captivity, unbelief, bad dream, rebellion, sleep work, daydreaming, impending doom or natural disaster

  • Pray that God will help you to dismantle every negative thought about yourself
  • Pray that God will grant you the grace to skip over any obstacle in the way of your success in the new year
  • Pray that the Lord will help you to trust in the word of God you read daily and let the word sanctify and shield you every moment of the year
  • Pray that God will protect you from predators of life; predators of destiny; predators of good ideas and predator of dreams.
  • Pray for power to grow your faith
    • A listening ear to hear the word of God
    • The will power to study the word of God
    • The heart to receive, believe and obey the word of God
    • Pray for power and equipping with all that you need to be sensitive concerning all that pertains to you
      • A listening ear
      • Spiritual eye to see beyond the natural

    • Pray for grace to always move up the ladder of success
    • Pray for grace to remain and maintain your position on top “you shall be head and not tail”

Lawrence Abitogun

Do not fast with the flesh, but be moved by the Spirit into fasting. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to fast.

“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him”

Because He was led by the Spirit and not by His flesh, He was empowered to overcome the temptations that confronted Him. As Christians, we ought to be led by the Spirit or allow the Spirit to take over our spirit when we embark on prayer and fasting.

Fasting is not just a mere denial of oneself from food or drink or anything that is of the flesh, but also, a time to dedicate that moment solely for God and within God’s environment. There is time for everything on earth. The time to devote for God must be strictly for Him. Not a time to bombard yourself with food, not a time to attend a party, not a moment to drive by a fast-food corridor or a time for you to drop at liquor store to buy soda. Fasting time is to restrict every movement away from what the devil will take advantage of.

Let’s look at the three temptations the devil put before Jesus

  1. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.  The tempter came to him and said “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
  2.  Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone

  1. Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me”.

Looking at the temptations, everything that the devil tempted Jesus with is within the power of Jesus to provide. The food which is the restorer of strength and power in our body, He provides; the highest point of the temple which represents the highest position on earth and in heaven belongs to Jesus; and all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor are also His. Why then should Jesus bow to the devil to get what belongs to Him?

One of the areas the devil takes advantage of is when a Christian embarks on fasting and prayer, the devil wants to rob the Christian of their expected blessing by making them to satisfy the things of the flesh. If we Christians would get the understanding of these temptations, we will not fall into any temptation (trap of the devil), you don’t go into fasting with the flesh, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. In that way, the Spirit will at that moment of temptation empower you to discern right.

There is always that urge in a man/woman to move pass the right time of life or to push aside the right thing to do or to incline doing that which is wrong. What the flesh does is to satisfy this urge without minding the consequence. If our Lord Jesus had not been moved into the wilderness by the Spirit, what would have happened? Would He bow down to the devil? But because He did not, He was given all powers over all creations?

Beware of these three quests

The three temptations represents the three most quests of man on earth and desirously will do anything to get it. If not seek righteously pursued, man will worship the devil to get it. Man or woman likes

1)      Food

2)      Position/Authority

3)      Money/wealth

I can reason with many Christian groups, each time they want to embark on general prayer and fasting, they go to a secluded area where these three quests are far away from them so that they can concentrate on being before God without any distraction.

If Jesus had fallen to the devil’s temptation, the devil would have had an edge over His ministry. Refusing to bow down for the devil for that moment, Jesus had a successful ministry and today, He is the provider and sustainer of all our needs and wants. When you are led by the Spirit to fast or allow the Spirit to take over your spirit when you fast, the Holy Spirit will not only guide you during the fasting period but also after it.

Learning from Jesus’ discuss

We need to learn from one of Jesus’ discusses, “Do not worry” (Luke 12:22-31). What Jesus rejected and refused to bow down for are things that human being is running after –  What to eat, what to wear, house to live, car to drive, career to be famous, money, position; anxious about all things.

You don’t have to worship any demon, man or any abstract to get all you need or want. God had already made the provisions there. However, when you request for these things in prayer and fasting, what is your motive?. When you fast, are you doing it to fulfill God’s purpose or your own ulterior motive?

For our Lord Jesus, being led by the Spirit, shows that He was led to be empowered to fulfill God’s purpose that He came into the world to do. When the devil failed, the scripture stated “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him”

Has an angel minister to you during your recent fasting program? Or has there been any residue effect of the Holy Spirit upon your life besides being under Him during the fasting period? Just as our Lord Jesus demonstrated, do the main thing first; other things will fall in place for you. The scripture confirms,

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt.6:33).

Children of God, when you pray and fast, make sure you are led by the Holy Spirit or submit your spirit under the power of the Holy Spirit when you are not led. Three things must come to mind when you embark on prayer and fasting. Firstly, you want to build a strong relationship with God in His presence. Secondly, make sure your request is genuine without any hidden motive than fulfilling the purpose of God. Thirdly, let your request be for empowerment to do the will of God.

By Lawrence Abitogun

As it is in the beginning of any period, challenges are inevitable. Year 2017 is another year, another period, another processing and a new journey of life. Even though the year would be packed with God’s blessing as ever, it would not be without some hiccups, inevitable and unknown challenges. However, the Lord God Almighty will help us to overcome any challenge and we shall receive our full package of blessings in Jesus name.

First thing first

Let us begin by acknowledging the goodness of God upon our lives in the past years.
Worship the Lord, magnify him, praise His Holy name in Psalms and in songs, worship Him spiritually and with your whole body; for who He is, what He has done, what His doing and for what He will do.

Prayer of thanks to the Lord in all areas – you cannot thank Him enough, you just have to thank Him at all times.

• For His goodness and activities in your life;
• For the gift of life, keeping you alive to this day
• For Physical and spiritual blessings, endowments and provisions in your life
• For Healing, deliverance and victories He accorded you in all challenges of life
• For Protection, safety and prevention from seen and unseen evil occurrences
• For Divine attractions, grace, mercy, favor and promotion that you have received

Prayer of repentance – Your sin will not spill over into the new year; therefore, Acknowledge, confess your sins and repent – then, pray for

• Mercy to overturn every judgment and penalty of sin
• Forgiveness of any wrong doing.
• purging of our body and soul from any defilement
• deliverance from sin and its power
• A refreshing time in the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19).

Prayer of rededication, pray

• that God will create you anew
• for fresh anointing of the spirit of God upon your life
• for renewal of God’s power upon your life
• for grace and empowerment to live a sin less life
• for grace and empowerment to live to please God

Word of courage for the journey of life in year 2017

The new year may seems to be like any other yesteryears, it come and go, but year 2017 has just began and yet to join the circle of past years. One reality though is that the journey is long and you need to lay aside any whatever that will not allow you to finish the journey successfully. The year is full of successes; however, all situations will require you to focus and endure to the end.
Whatever situation you may find yourself, whatever you may go through, whatever news is being herald, or wherever the wind of circumstance may affect you; you need to call on our God and tell Him “my eyes are on You”. Then, focus on Jesus because, He is the author and finisher of our faith; He will empower you to endure through to the end of the year. Are you prepared for the journey?

Learn from Jehoshaphat’s preparedness

Jehoshaphat is one of my favorite persons (a king) in the Bible. The very moment he ascended to the throne as king of Judah, he prepared himself physically and spiritually for the challenges a person of his caliber would face as a king. Read the excerpt.
“Then Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself against Israel. And he placed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim which Asa his father had taken. Now the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baal, but sought the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not according to the acts of Israel. “ Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave presents to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance. And his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.
“Also in the third year of his reign he sent his leaders and priests to teach in the cities of Judah: And with them he sent Levites…so they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the Lord with them; they went throughout all the cities of Judah and taught the people” (2Chro. 17:1-90.
As you enter into the new year you need to prepare yourself physically and spiritually for the challenges ahead.

Jehoshaphat prepared physically

Jehoshaphat strengthens himself by putting troops in the fortified cities and setting garrison in Judah. Within his human ability and empowerment, he has to protect what was committed to his charge. In the new year, how have you prepared physically to succeed in all your ways
God has deposited some abilities, gifts and physical empowerment in you; how have you prepared for the proper utilization of these endowments to glorify God and for the well-being of what pertains to you – your happiness and comfort; financial stability; security and safety of your family and property; your welfare and good health; and the good fortune that the Lord has prepared for you in the new year.

Jehoshaphat prepared Spiritually

More importantly, Jehoshaphat prepared himself spiritually for divine empowerment. How did he prepared, the Bible states that: he sought the Lord God; he did not seek baal (idol of the heart or the orders of this world); he walked in the commandment of God; his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; he remove the high places and wooding image from Judah (God is priority in all his ways): and He established school of theology in Judah.
How is your prayer life? how often do you plan to accompany your prayer time with fasting? how is your prayer altar at home? and what is your plan as to your contribution to the work of the gospel in your church this year? How have you prepared?
Your spiritual preparedness will reflect in the outcome of the physical manifestation. Spiritual and physical preparedness are mutual; the two work hand-in-hand. You cannot prepare physically and not spiritually, or else, you won’t have the power you need to overcome the challenges ahead. (Jas. 2:14-26) the Bible declared that “if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small (Pro. 24:10), therefore, be diligent this year.

Be diligent in year 2017 (Pro. 12:24).

Isaac received command from God not to go to Egypt because of the famine in Gerra. God promised to bless him in Gerra. Isaac obeyed and remained there. However, Isaac did not sit down expecting mana free of charge from heaven, but the bible states that Isaac sowed in the land that year and he reaped 100 folds while famine was hitting the inhabitants of the land. The key thing here is this, Isaac believed and obeyed God (spiritual preparedness) and he sowed (physical preparedness). Brethren, are you prepared? You must obey God. You also need to focus on getting your goal.

Stay focus

Stay focus to get your dream and goal come to reality in year 2017. In as much as God has granted you the grace to cross over to the new year, gaze your eyes on the Lord to lead you to overcome any challenge that may surface in all your endeavors.
In 2 kings 2:1-10, Elisha knew what he wanted from Elijah, his goal was to get double portion of the spirit of Elijah. Before Elisha got to the point where he declared his goal to his master, he had scaled over some hurdles, the challenges of distraction, discouragement, delay, obstruction etc. Right from the onset that he knew his master would be taken up. He pays attention to every moment all the way to the goal line. Read an excerpt of the story,
“When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
“You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.” (2Ki. 2:9-10)
Please do what Elisha did in order to remain focus in the new year. As a child of God, you are a goal getter, confronting and overcoming challenges empowers you to remain focus in any embankment. What did Elijah do?

• He has a goal – you must set your goal and priority, you need to know what you want to achieve
• He was focus on getting his goal – you must be focused in order to achieve your goal regardless of any challenge – constraints
• He rejected distraction from the sons of the prophets – you must reject distraction from close associates or acquaintances.
• He rejected negative indications – All it requires is you believing in yourself that you will get it right – be a goal getter
• He rejected discouragement from the sons of the prophet – whatever fact or economy indices signaled, you must not shiver because you are operating in the heavenly economy to succeed in the earthly economy.
• He refused to be delayed or stopped from advancing to the finish line – do not give up even when situation seems bleak.
• He did not ask for less – you have to think big and do not belittle yourself, but believe in your divine endowment to think big and achieve big. Don’t make the mistake, It is erroneous to think of any situation to be too small for you to call on God to intervene.
• Every moment was significant to him as he advanced toward the mark – be sensitive moment by moment as you advance and turn death ear to any whispering of discouragement.
• He followed up to the goal line and he achieved his goal – do not be weary or tired. When you are down spiritually or physically, arouse the Holy Ghost power to energize you. it is not over until you have achieved

The unforeseen and the inevitable

When you find yourself in a situation that is peaceful, joyous, happy and rosy and everything seems to be working in your favor, there you need more of God’s protection and empowerment to maintain that which is good. God’s blessing can be so much in your life that you may not be able to handle it just like the prodigal son could not handle his inheritance. The blessing can make you power drunk and you become proud, it can make you to forget your God.
Therefore, as good as it sound, it is a big challenge to maintain good things, and you have no power of your own to do this. Good thing or situation needs maintenance (Tit, 3:8), your eyes must be on the Lord to build a hedge around you and your possessions (Job 1:6-11). Therefore you need God’s empowerment to maintain the good times and things in order to avoid any evil orchestration.
If you find yourself in a mediocrity situation, you need God’s empowerment for improvement.
If on the contrary you find yourself in a difficult situation – problem, hardship, economic challenges, natural and human disasters, health issues, family issue, work related problem etc. what will you do? Like what happened to Jehoshaphat, bombarded by enemies, what would you do? How should you react to health or life threatening situation if it happens?
In all odds, universal or personal; when you are faced with a situation that is beyond your control in year 2017; your first reaction should be to seek help from God (Ps. 121). This is the reason Jehoshaphat received favor from God, he seeks the Lord.
God may directly go into action on your behalf or He may send help; no one can predict what He will do, but He will help; He is a present help in time of trouble or need (Ps. 46:1); hence Jehoshaphat sets his eyes on the Lord, the scripture states
“…And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2Chro 20:1-12)
When you find yourself in some challenging or difficult situations in the new year and you don’t know what to do, just like Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah did, the best thing to do is to fix your eyes on the Lord and say “my eyes are upon you O Lord”. Then, pray unto God, accompany it with fasting then beginning to sing praises unto the Lord and wait for your victory. (Ps. 37:3-8)
You have to call on God to intervene in your situation, claim His promises of old as it relates to your present situation. In 2Chro.20:1-12, Jehoshaphat reminded God of His old promises concerning Israel. He now appeals to God to intervene.

Jehoshaphat leans on God for revelation on what to do

After focusing on God for intervention, leave everything unto Him; wait for instruction on what to do; and follow the instruction to letter as Jehoshaphat did. You must do the followings,
• Your heart must be right with God. David said in Ps 18:1-3 that
o I will love God
o I will trust God
o I will call on God and
o I will praise God
• Hand over your challenges onto God (Matt. 11:28-30)
• Take your position – stand firm in the Lord, no amount of bad or negative news should disturb your activities spiritually and physically. Stand firm in faith, believe the word of God and promises concerning your situation, and work according to His will.
• Do not be afraid, but be courageous
• You have to face your battle even though God is fighting it on your behalf. You cannot run away from your challenges because through it God will strengthen you, and in it there He will provide a way for victory (1 Cor. 10:13). Your battles and challenges are training ground for you and a stepping stone for a higher responsibility (promotion, breakthrough, increase, expansion etc.).
Joseph had to face the path of servitude before rising to stardom in a strange land. Daniel must be a captive before becoming an ambassador of God in a strange land – serving under three different heathen kings as second in command.
Whatever situation you find yourself or whatever challenge you may be facing in the new year, lean on God for revelation on what to do. Call on Him; He will delight in you, He will hear you, He will intervene on your behalf, He will fight your battle and He will deliver you.
Haven done all these, as God rewarded Jehoshaphat, will He not reward you more now that you have Christ in your life and the spirit of God lives in you?
Whatever situation you may be passing through, good or the contrary, someone had passed through a similar situation. How do they handle it to become a hero or a victim? Victory in those situations has been linked with people who trust, obey, and hand-over their situation over to God.

Faith plays a key role in year 2017

You must imitate our Lord Jesus; He had a goal – to lay hold of the joy that was set before Him. How did He achieve this goal? He was focused; He would not allow circumstances (joy, happiness, riches; nor sorrow, shame, suffering, etc.) to stop Him from attaining that joy. What else did he do? He endured the cross (He suffered and died to liberate humanity)
Read the excerpt,
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb. 2: 1-2)
Chapter 11 which precedes this chapter 12 of the book of Hebrew speaks of many examples of people who by faith overcame challenges of life. They are children of God as we are in this end time. The author wants you to learn from them, especially, their faith. Faith will play a key role in your successes in year 2017.
The passage advises you to look at Jesus; whose life’s experience sums up all challenges and sufferings that anyone can have and how He was victorious at the end. He will start and end year 2017 with you. The chapter mentioned of the cloud of witnesses (faith heroes who had faced and overcame tough challenges of life); the chapter then advises you to lay aside weights and sins that can set you back or be hindrances to achieving your goal. Therefore, you need to look at Jesus in order to run the race of the New Year successfully.

The place of the word of God in your life in year 2017

The Bible made us to know that in the time of the law, when the tabernacle was completed and the ark of the Lord was put in its place, the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle to the extent that Moses could not enter it (Exo. 40:34-35).
In the days of the kings, the ark was put in the Solomon’s temple, no more in the tabernacle. The only thing in the ark was the two tablets of stone containing the laws (the word of God). After the ark has been put into its place the Bible states that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord” (1Ki 8:10-11).
In this dispensation of grace, the Bible called us the temple of the living God
“ … For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.” (2Cor. 6:16; 1Cor.3:16)
If the glory of God would fill the tabernacle and the temple that was made with hand because the ark of the Lord (containing the word) was put in its right place; how much more would the glory of the Lord fill your life if the word of God would dwell richly in your heart in year 2017. Don’t you know that the Word in your life is the presence of God in your life?
