When the Israelites left Egypt, their focal point was to get to the promise land as a free nation to serve the Lord. For them to stay focus they must avoid distraction or any side attraction that may want to shift their mind and eyes from getting to the promise land – the focal point.
Year 2016 is a new journey of life that is full of promises and blessings of God. However, satan will also want to operate to prevent children of God from being a partaker of these promises and blessings.
Therefore, in spite of all the promises and blessings, there is bound to be distractions caused by human and nature. The distractions will be caused by adversities (negative ideologies, antagonism, opposition, confrontations, enemy and perilous enticements; obstacles and difficulties; inducement of the devil to cause limitation, delay, procrastination or discouragement; and natural disasters. The occurrence of these odds can shift one’s mind or eyes from being focused.
Before the time you crossed into the New Year, you have many plans you have purposed to accomplish in the year. God knows your thought, as long as it is in line with His will and you subject yourself to His directives, He will surely go before you; He will lead you; His spirit will direct your thought and action. He will help you to accomplish your goal; he will not allow any distraction to cross your path or overcome you. Neither will He allow any of those odds to cause you to go back into the woes of the past: Rather, He will help and strengthen you to overcome any adversity.

The Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you” (Deut. 31:6).
Your journey of life each moment resembles the Israelites journey from Egypt to the promise land. It illustrates right and wrong actions taken by the Israelites and their payback. Your behavior and attitude as a Christian who sojourns in this earth will determine your achievement and success by the end of the year.
As a believer you want to be free and prosperous in the New Year, you must stay within the bound of God’s lead. Hence, this prayer bulletin which is more like crosses to freedom and prosperity implies that a person who is presently in bondage can gain freedom; someone who is in a state of poverty can leave that zone and become prosperous in this New Year.
For you as a Christian to attain the fullness of your freedom, prosperity, destiny, goal, promises of God, and eternal home in heaven, you have to pass through two crossovers.
1. The Red Sea
2. The Jordan River
However, in between the Red Sea and the Jordan River is a journey, an experience that every Christian cannot but have. It is a critical period, which determines whether a person will cross the second crossover or not. This period is what I call the wilderness experience.
By the special grace of God, you have crossed over from year 2015 to 2016, I congratulate you; you have crossed over your Red Sea. What next? You have to get to the Jordan River before you can cross into your promise land. Every situation in the New Year has its own Jordan to cross. The crossing of the Red sea symbolizes the total surrender of your life and the final determination to embark on a particular mission, goal, journey to freedom or whatever may be your undertaking. You have begun the journey into year 2016; you are at the point of no return. Begin to move forward.
What awaits you in your promise land in the New Year is freedom, prosperity, success, dream realization, good health, victory etc. Are you going to get there? Now, I ask you, who is leading you in your way, who is directing your affairs in year 2016? The outcome of your wilderness experience will determine whether you will cross over Jordan to your promise land or not. Be sensitive to God’s lead; you need to focus.

When passing through your wilderness, trust God

The wilderness experience represents the process taken or experienced before achieving a set goal. The smallest or easiest activity of man goes through some processes before it accomplishes its goal.
Wilderness experience is so dramatic that you kept on wondering how it will turn out; because it is a journey you have not travelled before. Expect some inevitable challenges that are specifically set in place to displace and distract you from focusing. 2016 is another period in the journey of life; as you know that journey of life is a war, you are not going to fight it in the physical temporal plane, but it is a spiritual warfare.
Wilderness experience requires patience. Patience is bearing affliction, waiting, standing fast under pressure and having faith that turns adversity to opportunity. Your patience and endurance will be tested, but be careful, do not crosses the line of tolerance; it can rob you of your blessing; wait on God.
No matter how or what the circumstance, you should resolutely trust God (Job 40:8; 42:1-6). Do not trust in any earthly things, they lead to boredom and despair. But build on a strong relationship with your Creator; He cares for you and truly will satisfy you. Confidence in any person, thing, riches/ wealth, government system or economy indices other than God Himself through our Lord Jesus Christ is misplaced trust.
Do you know that the downfall of ones earthly confidant produces sorrow? (2Samuel 4:1)
Things are simply not what we think they ought to be, but God is still in control and He works His good purpose through events we do not most of the time understand. All you need to do is cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you (Jas. 5:7). Focus on where God is taking you and do not border yourself with breaking news.

Follow the Lord’s directives

The way and how the Lord will lead you may not be the common way of the world. How the Lord thinks is not the way the world thinks. Therefore, it is the spirit of the Lord that will tell and input in your mind what to do.
When the Israelites left Egypt, the Bible states,
“God led the Israelites not by way of the land of the philistines, although that was nearer (which normally will be preferred by wise people of this world); for God said, lest the people change purpose when they see war and return to Egypt. But God led the people around by way of the wilderness toward the red sea” (Exo. 13: 17-18).
Follow the way of righteousness steadily with God guidance, God will take you through your own peculiar way which, when you are faced with challenges in the New Year, He will guide and help you to overcome.

2016 journey is by faith: not by sight

The Bible declared that –
“But without faith it is impossible to please God:
for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6).
Faith destroys negative thoughts and advances the positive thoughts
The transitional period of any undertaking (achieving a set goal or accomplishing a mission) is to be run by faith and not by sight. Faith is you trusting in the Lord to take you through the whole process of your undertaking no matter what stands in your way. It is your faith in the Lord that guarantees you the confidence to achieve, and believing in His power and promises concerning you. Your faith in Him means you are casting your burden on Him. Your faith in Him builds your faith in your undertaking. Start to live by faith right now.
If you pursue your undertaking by sight, you will not likely accomplish; why? Many things you will see during the year will look dreadful, frightening and discouraging. They are difficulties, which stand to be mountains and valleys; they are hindrances and obstacles that are against you achieving your set goals, against gaining your liberty or against crossing to the better side.
It is your faith in God through our Lord Jesus that will help your faith in your plans and your faith in anticipation. Moreover, your conformity to the will and purpose of God peculiarly for your life will completely grant you your heart desire.

Circumcise you heart< “Above all else, guard your heart, for; everything you do flows from it. Keep you mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the path for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn right or the left; keep your foot from evil (Pro. 4:23-27). How do you circumcise your heart? Worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ and place not your confidence in any human honor or accomplishment as a means to reaching God. But, embark on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely and things that are of good report (Phil. 4:8-9). Another way you can circumcise your heart is to avoid being a sharer of what modern Christians called “norms of the day” – Sensual pleasure (lust of the flesh), covetousness (lust of the eye) and position and power (pride of life). Be diligent: not slothful “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute”. (Pr. 12:24) “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathered by labor shall increase”. (Pr. 13:11) To be self-sufficient and to live a fulfilled life of your choice this year, you must work hard for it. Whatever level of wealth you wish to acquire in life, you must be ready to work for it. Ill-gotten wealth will never last. One thing is to have faith in God; have faith in your goal; obeying the word of God; and so on; the other thing is for you to do your own part; work hard in order to receive favor and multiply greatly (Gen. 26:12-13). “Whatever your hands finds to do, do it with all your might…” (Eccl. 9:10). Let success or failure (not with those working according to the will of God) rest in the hand of God, but get to the task. Don’t look backward Looking and moving forward helps moving fast to accomplishing ones objective. Looking backward to what is behind will hinder your progress, slow you down or even not allowing you to achieve. Lot’s wife disobeyed the command not to look back; she was reluctant to leave what she enjoys most – enjoyment, the world, sinful nature etc. and was unable to make it to safety (Gen. 19:17-26). In the New Year, let your thought be to move forward even in the face of any hardship or difficulty. Don’t be a quitter, you need to press forward; hence, Apostle Paul says, “Brethren, …: but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phi. 3:13-14). What is ahead in year 2016 is greater and brighter things than things you left behind in the past years. Do not focus on despair, rejection, disappointment, hardship, loss of something precious or fleshy and sinful attributes etc, throw them behind you. When all these things kept pumping back into your mind, they weigh you down and prevent you from moving forward. The book of Hebrews advices “Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” (Heb. 12:1-2). Negatives must not hold you back; they continue to hurt you if you don’t let it go. Fix your eyes on God for a new thing that He will make to happen. Why don’t you start by thanking Him for what He will do this new year? Learn to be thankful every moment of the New Year Many Christians are willing to promise anything during the time of stress or need; but as soon as the stress stops, their hearts becomes hardened and become unwilling to do what they have promised. They are unthankful for what God had done talk less of thanking Him for what He is about to do. Peradventure things do not work out the way you expected this year, continue to praise God; when it is good or bad, learn to be thankful always,: Let your thanks be more than your request. Be obedient to the word of God “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God….And to whom swear he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief”. (Heb. 3:12-19) The psalmist said “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”. (Ps. 119:11) The book of Isaiah said further “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the fruit of the land”. (Is. 1:19) The word of God is your teacher to teach you how to walk, where to stand and where to sit (Ps. 1). What do I mean by this statement? It is the word of God that will teach and direct you how best to position yourself this year. As a believer, let you undertakings be governed by the word of God. If you are seeking the best way to pursue anything, the word of God will show you the way to go. If you are confused during the year, the word of God will help you unknot difficulties. If you are lost in the wilderness (in whatever you are doing) the word of God will show you the way out. The place of the word of God in your life in the year is very important in that you must apply it to the circumstances of your life. If you fully adhere and obedient to the word of God, there are numerous blessings awaiting you in your own promise land. One thing you need to understand is that blessing follows obedience (Jos. 22:2-5 &8). Be zealous for the work of God Eleazar, the grandson of Aaron was given the covenant of an everlasting priesthood for being zealous with the zeal of God. Try not to allow anything to take the place of God in your life; be dedicated and committed to the things of God; and make Him priority in all things, and see what the Lord will do. Beware of agents of obstruction One of satan’s tactics is to obstruct forward progress of the children of God. An obstructionist sees one who is prospering as a threat out of envy and jealousy. He will do anything to cause a careless and insensitive Christian to sin against God or misdirect him/her away from the right course. Balaam is an agent of the devil who has the power to do and undo, to inflict injury upon anyone who is not in the will of God. A Christian will fall victim of an obstructionist if he/she operates outside the bound, directive and will of God. Be focused and follow God leading. Seek God’s approval Seek God’s approval to approve the person of anybody, any step that you want to take, any undertaking you want to embark upon, so that you will not fall victim or enter into a covenant with your enemy (Jos. 9:14). You need to ask for specifics in any instruction you receive either spiritual or real to life. Manoah asked specific question about the person of his son Samson (Jud. 13:12). Observance and compliance is important to God’s instruction. However, ask questions that does not signify unbelief. You cannot be irrational when it comes to obeying the word of God. Be like David who asked for specific instruction • To pursue the Amelikites or not at Ziglag (1 Sam. 30:8) • To fight the philistine at the stronghold or not (2 Sam. 5:19) One of the ways you can be focus is to get clarity of instruction and follow to letter. Strengthen yourself in the Lord always It is not all the time you will find people to encourage you in the right way; in fact, they will discourage you more. Elisha was discouraged by Elijah and the sons of the prophet from following Elijah to the place of his (Elisha) empowerment when Elijah was about to be taking up to heaven. But Elisha was focused in that no one would stop him from getting to that place of his blessing. What you need to do 99% of the time is to encourage yourself in the Lord. The scripture states that David strengthens himself in the Lord (1Sam. 30:6). The Lord told Joshua to be strong and courageous (Jos. 1:7-8) As a Christian, always encourage yourself in the Lord in whatever you want to do or in any situation you may be passing through. Nobody will do it for you; so, fix your attention on God to direct you in all your endeavors. Review and renew your stand with the Lord Do not rely on your past experience as far as your success is concern, though it works for you in the past; still, seek for a new revelation that suits the present situation. The love of God and His goodness comes new to us every morning. God does not duplicate His old strategy to win a new battle, but every new battle is won with a new weapon and strategy. Therefore, renew your stand with God everyday of the New Year. Be sensitive and on-guard every moment of the year The following 7 points will help you to be on-guard and sensitive 1. Do not wax cold for your love for Christ 2. Be faithful and do not deny your faith in any situation you find yourself 3. Do not compromise with the things of this world neither you partake in devil’s destructive enjoyment 4. Do not bite the devil’s inducement which will corrupt you to sin against God. 5. Always examine your stand with the Lord 6. Be open to the truth; it will guard and guide you firmly as you walk in the way of your destiny 7. Hold fast to the truth and faithfully worship the Lord. Conclusion The scripture states “…humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God (your main point of focus), that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you” “Be sober and vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1Pet. 5:7-8). Christian brothers and sisters, your goal in the New Year is to cross to your promise land. To achieve this, you need to stay focus so that satan will not derail you and rob you of what is waiting for you there. Your promise land represents the life in this world and eternity with Christ in the presence of God. Your eternity starts with the quality of life you live now. Why don’t you start living it with humility and reverence, trusting and focusing on God for the fulfillment of His purpose, promise and blessing for your life in the New Year? Prayer Give thanks to the Lord for a successful crossover into 2016 • Magnify the Lord by praising His holy name in psalms and with praise worship every day of the year. Praising the Lord will open the window of heaven for showers of blessings. • Thank the Lord for His goodness and His activities in your life; the gift of life, physical and spiritual blessings, endowments, healing, protection, provision, deliverance, safety, victories, divine attractions, promotion etc. thanking the Lord attracts more blessings. Lawrence Abitogun Visit:

There shall be a turning point for you in year 2015

In the journey of life or in any endeavor, there are bound to be difficulties, obstacles, diverse problems and so forth before there can be any success accomplished. It is in the mist of these odds that success and breakthrough will sprout. However, before there can be a breakthrough, there must be a test of faith – you will be “tested”.

Every human being goes through some testing in whatever undertaking they embarked upon.  The aim of testing is not to destroy or make life difficult for any one; but to purge, refine, equip and to prepare a person for a greater thing which is ahead.

In the same way, it is important for a Christian who aspires to get to the stage of Christian maturity to be fully prepared and ready to pass the test of faith. Your major goal as a Christian is to make heaven; however, heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. Likewise, a turning point is for people who are prepared and ready to face challenges of life before and after getting there.

In this prayer bulletin, our story of reference will be that of Joseph in the Holy Bible (Gen 37, 39, 40 and 41). We are all conversant with this story. Joseph was destined to be great based on his dream which he heard. But innocently, he narrated his dream to his half-brothers who turned around wanting to kill that dream.

The dreamer and dream killers: Gen 37: 2-10

Behind any dream, there is always a dream killer; and behind every embankment, there is always an opposition. It is like a word and it’s opposite. The purpose of God for our existence is for good; but the devil is always there to work against that purpose. One thing is this, no matter what the devil may do to accomplish his havoc; the purpose of God always prevails.

God’s timing to accomplish his purpose is always perfect; therefore, as a Christian, you must learn to wait for that right time. While waiting, which I will call the wilderness period; what kind of attitude will you put up during that time until you get to that turning point this New Year. The waiting time may be short or long. Sometimes it may never come; especially, if the waiter puts on a wrong attitude. The attitude an individual puts up in the process of meeting that purpose of God (that turning point) will determine the end result.

What kind of attitude are we talking about?

1.    Attitude to put up when you received a revelation, vision, dream or project planning period etc.

2.    Attitude to put up during waiting time before the turning point

3.    Attitude to put up at the turning point and beyond.

Attitude to put up when you receive revelation, vision, dream or a project planning period etc.

Let what pertains to you be secret to you only. Not all that is in the offing needs be revealed to another person. God’s secret for your life is to be kept to yourself. As Christians, you must not trust any one. Those that you call you confidants are the ones that will reveal your secret or plan to your distractors and enemies.

As a Christian you need to be wise when it comes to telling people about the plan of God for your life or the secret to your success. Let people see what God is doing; let them contemplate how God did it; you are to keep doing what you have to do and keep to yourself the blueprint for your success. Does this mean you cannot share your idea with anyone? Not at all, however, be careful whom to share your secret with.

Do not ally with a wicked person or someone whose character is questionable. No matter what the closeness or relationship you may have with anyone, seek counsel of the Holy Spirit before you ally with that person. There are many people out there who will destroy your good work or hinder you in the way of your destiny (2Chro. 20:35-37).

Our attitude as Christians when we receive a revelation, when we have a vision and when we have a plan or goal demands carefulness. What happen when Joseph had his dream, and what was the consequence of his action?

Lesson from Joseph’s unwise openness – Gen. 37:5-11

We need to learn a lesson from Joseph’s disclosure of his dream to his brothers. Joseph’s destiny for greatness was revealed to him in a dream; however, probably because he was young or ignorant of what was revealed to him, he told it to his brothers. Because of his openness, his brothers hated him, even more, because he was the beloved of their father. You cannot be too open when it comes to what pertains to you.

As a Christian, you need to be guided divinely before you open your mouth to utter anything concerning your aspiration. The intention of Joseph’s brothers was to kill the destiny of Joseph when he was stripped and sold into slavery.

The scripture states

“Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!” (Gen. 37:18-20)

If he had told this to his father before telling his brothers, probably his father would have advised him not to tell anyone. This is one reason I advise the youth not to despise the wise counseling of their parents. Your parents will not lead you astray; seek their counseling when it gets to the point where you don’t know what to do. Decision that is not divinely guided can send someone into unprecedented captivity.

In another scenario, Samson said

“If you had not plowed with my heifer,

You would not have solved my riddle!” (Jud. 14:18b)

This proverb was said by Samson after Timnah, the wife-to-be, revealed the answer to the riddle he posed to the philistines; the philistines would not have known the answer to the riddles if Samson had not told it to his wife-to-be; and if the wife-to-be had not leaked the answer to the philistines. Who can be closer to a man than his spouse?

To worsen the whole situation, Samson never learned a lesson from his first mistake. The secret of Samson which he revealed to Delilah caused his untimely tragic death (Jud. 16). The scripture says,

“A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth,

But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.

He who guards his mouth preserves his life,

But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction” (Pro. 13:2-3).

In the New Year, let your decision be guided divinely and let your secret be secret to you only. You need to behave wisely: Regardless of your status, behave wisely (1Sam. 18:5, 14, 30).

Attitude to put up during waiting time before the turning point

You will all agree with me that it take some time between the time a woman conceives and the time she delivers her baby. Waiting time is the time between the times you receive your revelation; the time you conceived the idea of your goal; the time you see your vision; and or the time you had your dream to the time they all come to reality.

Before a person gets to that turning point, as a Christian, it is required of you to put on an attitude that is divinely guided. The right spiritual and physical attitudes that you will need in that process which will enhance the achievement of that person’s goal.

The following attitudes are worth noting while waiting for God to take you to your turning point in year 2015.

”    Faithfulness to God, not greed, determines success in life.

It is necessary and important to serve the Lord by being faithful in your doings, both inside and outside the church: Whether you are being watched or not; whether you are being supervised or not; faithfulness is required of you. The basic spiritual condition of a Christian can be found in the degree of his/her faithfulness towards God. See all your activities to man or any authority as being unto God who sees and judges of all things.

We see this faithfulness in the life of Joseph and Daniel. In the face of opposition, incrimination, threat and death, their allegiance to God was priority. Be faithful in any situation you find yourself. No situation should cause you to deny your faith. The unmovable everlasting foundation of the righteous is faith in God through our Lord Jesus.

Faithfulness exalts a man. Joseph exemplified the faithful steward and illustrated the principle that one who is faithful in a little will be given charge over much (Matt 25:21; 1Cor.4:2). Hence, the Lord was with Joseph (Gen 39:2, 21, 23). The empowering presence of God in your life will help you to get to your turning point to greatness. “It is required in stewards that one be found faithful” (1Cor. 4:2)

”    Do not compromise with the things that are not righteous-(Gen. 39:7-10).

There are many devils’ enjoyments which entice one to sin. These enjoyments induce one into corruption, whereby one sins against God. Hence, Joseph said “how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God”: he fled from committing fornication.

Pleasure that is unrighteous or illegitimate leads to boredom and despair. It robs one of getting to the turning point for goodness. Only your true relationship with your creator who cares for you will truly satisfies. Troubles and uncertainties may continue all around you; but even during that period, you can find joy and success in the secure trust in the almighty God to turn your situation around for good.

”    Patience is strongly required;

Patience is one of the attitudes we need most to put up in order to get to that turning point. Patience requires

o     bearing affliction

o     waiting in hope

o     standing fast under pressure,

Ultimately patience is an empowerment that turns adversity into opportunity. Your patience and endurance will be tested.

Be careful, the most dreadful satanic weapon that destroys ones expectation is anger. Do not allow anger to the extent of you crossing the boundary line of your tolerance. This is what happened to Moses, his unrighteous anger cost him the promise land when he crossed the boundary of tolerance (Num. 20:9-12; Deut. 3:23-27)

On the other hand, Joseph exercises the right attitude throughout the thirteen years of his servitude. He did not allow anger even when he had the opportunity to revenge on his brothers. His right attitude brought him to the turning point – presiding in the palace of Pharaoh.

”    You need wisdom that is found in the fear of God.

All wisdom is built solely on the knowledge of God and submission to His will. To know something independent of God is out of the will of God. To fear God requires the followings

o    Receiving the word of God

o    Takes God’s command seriously

o    Incline your ears to wisdom

o    Having/seeking/searching for understanding the word of God

o    Seeking for the spirit of discernment

o    Obedience to the word of God.

Just as wisdom in the Old Testament acts as God’s word; so also, in the New Testament, Jesus combines the wisdom and word of God with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to keep us in tune. You need to pursue wisdom and knowledge because both are life long occupation which is realized in the entire lifetime of a believer. The fear of the Lord leads to life. (Pro. 19:23)

”    Do not rationalize the power of God.

The Bible says,

“Has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not” (Num. 11:23).

To get to the turning point is not an ordinary thing, but it takes the power of God. Your dream, vision, project or aspiration will be achieved through your reliance on the power of God. Do not rely on your power or ability to achieve succes. I want you to see Jesus in your situation, and retain God in your knowledge. Whatever may be the challenges before you in year 2015 or your logical limitation, let the spirit of God lead you (Zach. 4:6-9).

While still expecting, you cannot conceive how God will take you to the turning point. Things are simply not always what we think they ought to be; but God is still in control of all situations, and He works His good purpose through events we do not understand or which anyone can comprehend.

When you are in despair or confused and you don’t seem to understand what is happening; seek the Lord for enlightenment and counsel. The scripture says “casting all our cares upon Him, for He cares for you” (Jas. 5:7). While in wait, at the appointed time, He will answer. God’s timing is always perfect

”    Do not rationalize the word of God but obey.

We need to learn from Abraham’s obedience to God’s command; he was to leave his country, his family and his father’s house, to a land which he did not know. In this modern day, many Christians’ reaction would be to question God why they should leave these three important environments; after all, here are three levels of ever-increasing demands on every man’s life.

Abraham obeyed; not because of the blessing he has not seen, but he believed that God is able to do what He promised. Our God will not command anything without attaching the benefit of obedience to it. Sadly, human being reaction in the present dispensation is to look for proofs how scientifically it can be possible.

Christianity is meant to throw light and reveal the truth in this present world of falsehood. Christianity affirms that Jesus Christ is the truth and the displayer of God’s character. To ignore and not obey the word of God is to foolishly grope around like wanderer.

A Christian should have his/her deep enjoyment in the things of God; particularly in the word of God – focusing the mind more on the scripture. In this New Year 2015, you need to read and listen to the word and teaching of Jesus Christ, through it you will dwell safely and will be secure without the fear of any evil.

Look at all those who were blessed in the Bible, they have one thing in common; good relationship with God. The best way we can have good relationship with God is through obedience. There is no obedience without good reward. Likewise, there is no success without obedience

David said,

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You”. Again, he said, “your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. Furthermore, he said, great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble (Ps 119: 11, 105, 165 respectively).

”    There is the need to develop your endowed gift.

Joseph would not allow his prison situation to disturb or distract him from using his gift of dream and its interpretation. The Bible says “A man’s gift makes room for him, and bring him before great men (Pro. 18:16). Hence,

¢    Joseph, through interpretation of dream was brought before Pharaoh;

¢    Daniel, through interpretation of dreams was brought before Nebuchadnezzar;

¢    David, through his sling, he killed Goliath and rose to be king over Israel

¢    Our Lord Jesus, even though He is the King of kings, because of the word of God and his miracle was brought before Pilate.

¢    Apostle Paul’s zeal brought him before king Agrippa.

Developing and using your gift or talent judiciously in the fear of God is what will take you to your turning point.  Every human being is endowed with a peculiar weapon to develop his/her potential to have success. In a way, success is a battle and not always easy to win. But if you have an insight of your endowment, you are bound to be successful if not slothful about it.

The way to your blessing is different from another man’s way. If you walk in another man’s way of blessing you will not be as successful as if working in line of your own blessing. Many are not successful because they are building on the foundation of another man’s destiny. Your good relationship with God will lead you in the right way or the path of your destiny.

Everybody has to walk in their own unique way of destiny before they can be blessed in life. Seek the face of the Lord today for empowerment to walk in the path of your destiny. Do not eye or envy those who are prospering in their own way; but commit your way unto the Lord, and He will bring you to your own place of blessing.

”    You need to be spirit filled.

You need to be sensitive to the lead of the Holy Spirit no matter what kind of situation you find yourself. The spirit of God leads you and is able to take you to the turning point. When the spirit of God resides in your life, He moves you into action and guides you into all truth. You need to set aside personal feeling and let the spirit of God take total control. Hold fast that which is good (1Thess. 5:21)

You must develop a heart for mercy and forgiveness. This is a step to having a new and clean heart. Your heart needs to be renewed, restored and transformed. Spiritual transformation starts from the mind, this will manifest in the physical – your turning point into the positive side of life.

As a Christian, you need to have a heart that is dedicated to God’s truth; this is what will enable you to stand the test of time. You can resist any temptation by meditating on God’s word and let the Holy Spirit guide and shape your thought and behavior (Jn. 4:21-26; Rom. 2:1-2)

You need to live and walk in the spirit. This means, you should obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit by following spiritual lead. If Joseph did not allow the spirit to take total control of his life, he would have craved for the invitation of Potifar’s wife to commit fornication. That would have cost him or prolong his turning point.

”    Your faith in God plays a key role in your breakthrough in the New Year.

The scripture says that the step of the righteous is ordained from above. No matter how long it takes you to overcome any problem or difficulty, have faith in God and let Him direct you.

”    You need to give more time for prayer and fasting.

The scripture admonishes us to pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1Thess. 17-18). Furthermore, the scripture encourages us to pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and request. We should be alert and always keep on praying for the Lord’s people (Eph. 6:18).

Attitude at the ozone layer – the split second to crossing the turning point

This is the most critical point of any translation, that very moment of breakthrough and realization of ones aspiration. It takes boldness and courage to walk out of any bondage (Exo. 14:8). As Christians, in the face of any problem or hardship that may surface in this New Year, we must not look back or go back, nor should we give up until we have attained. The Bible says we should keep asking until our joy is full. Also, the Lord told the Israelite at the bank of the Red Sea not to fear but to move forward.

In the days of David, the Israelites warred against Benjamin and Gibeah. Israelites fell two times before Benjamin, despite the fact that they inquired of the Lord, they did not give up. They went the third time after Israel had enquired of the Lord again, and they defeated the Benjamites (Judges 20). It is not finish until it is finished. Do not give up when you are going through the wilderness of life, turning point is just a split second ahead.

I attended a middle school function “Kids and Cadets” at Hubbard Middle School, Plainfield NJ. What interested me most was a student who came to the stage to recite her poem. Her recitation was smooth and dramatic, which caught the attention of everybody. But before she finished, she forgot the last sentence of her poem and she became nervous. However, because of her early brilliant performance, there was a round of applause for her.

That applause does not go well with her teacher; the teacher was not satisfied with that performance, so she told the student to recite her poem all over again. The student did not get it right until the fourth time. Finally, she recited the poem smoothly as it was when she first came to the stage.

Surprisingly, despite her mistake, her last performance was more impressing and glorious. She won the prize for that function. Don’t give up, do it again until you get it right. What you need to do is to press forward. Most importantly, you must press with the right attitude in order to get to that turning point.

Attitude to put up at the turning point and beyond

Do not attribute your success, achievement or breakthrough to your ability or power. By God’s favor, Joseph became the lord of his master and the landlord of his master’s house. Whatever Joseph does, the Lord made him to prosper. Joseph was faithful as a slave; hence, he was given a higher responsibility.

When Joseph was called out of the dungeon (his turning point) and Pharaoh asked him “I heard it was said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it”. Joseph answered Pharaoh, “it is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace” (Gen. 41:14-16). Joseph did not attribute the glory of God to himself, but unto God.

In another instance, when Daniel wanted to interpret Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, he told the king, “The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. “But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets” (Dan. 2:27-28).

The Lord will give you your aspiration, the blue print to your success, the plan and strategy for your breakthrough; your dream, vision, revelation or gift when they are derived from a fundamental desire for God’s honor and glory.

Joseph received favor from God and men

Favor is an act of God. It is God’s generosity and blessing beyond normal. However, a past deed and attitude can be a factor that engineers it. One does not intentionally seeks for favor and get it just like that, but the Lord providentially directs one into it.

Many take favor only in monetary term, but it transcends beyond that. Favor can be rest, protection, security, provision, good health etc. But most importantly, godly living can be rewarded with favor; integrity would attract favor; loyalty, dedication, commitment to the course of God can attract favor; humility can lead to favor, and among many other godly attributes.

In year 2015, do whatever is good, because one day, God will remember you; also, men will remember you. The bottler remembered Joseph and he mentioned Joseph’s name to Pharaoh. When the word of God renders “He remembered” it signifies that God began to intervene on someone’s behalf. God remembers Noah, Sarah, Hannah etc. their situations turn around for the better.

The turning point in Joseph’s life was rising from a dungeon to the Egyptian throne room. Your turning point is your breakthrough – the realization of your dream, vision and revelation; success in your goals, undertakings and aspirations.

The greatest turning point

The greatest and highest turning point in the life of any human being is when that person surrenders his/her life to God’s rule through our Lord Jesus Christ. The point of a new birth in Christ is what I am talking about. To surrender your life to Christ is not the work of flesh and blood, but the spirit of God brings conviction to the heart of those who desires.

Without procrastination, back your conviction today with action. The question then is “what shall I do?” Apostle Peter said, “Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sin”, this is your entrance to receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-)

Today, as you are reading this prayer bulletin, there is the need for you as a Christian to live step-by-step in the power of the gift of the Holy Spirit which you have received. Allow that Holy Spirit to work through your spirit. Walk each moment by faith in God. Those who know what sin is and know how to avoid it are those who have kept their focus on God. Please do not be driven away by liberty to license without caution and self-discipline.

You need grace to depend on God for the right attitude, which will give you victory in year 2015

Victory depends more on the spiritual state of the mind, the degree of dependence and obedience to God; not according to the earthly strength or wisdom. Every moment of your life is like a battle, fight or struggle and a little rest; your victory does not come by the amount of weapon or strength you have, but by the backing of the spirit of God’s miraculous intervention. The scripture says

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2Cor. 10:4).

In year 2015, trust in God, delight in Him, commit your ways to Him, rest in Him and wait patiently for Him (Ps. 37:1-8); and He will take you to your turning point. Have a wonderful and prosperous year.

Prayer bulletin for Year 2014

  1. 1.     prayer for spiritual alertness to prevent falling for temptation and
  2. 2.      prayer against appearances, agents, works and consequences of temptation in year 2014

“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren. (Jas. 1:13-16)

Nobody is above temptation. In year 2014, many situations (difficult and pleasant) will surface in which satan would want to take advantage to set against and derail children of God. It is therefore necessary to pray because unintended incidents and consequences are facts of life; life is full of uncertainties. When it comes to temptation, irrespective of status, position or person: all is vulnerable. But with faith in Jesus Christ who is above any temptation in life, He will help anyone to overcome any temptation.

Temptation is not a new phenomenon; it started from the first Adam to the second Adam (Jesus) and all the generations that lived after them. Many noted men of God; honorable men in our societies; knowledgeable and wise in our communities; and leaders of nearly all the world’s people, had fallen into temptation and they are still falling today.

Why temptation?

Temptation may come for two reasons

  1. Discipline, judgment or rebuke from God to correct an erred person: Sometimes, temptation comes when the Lord has a greater assignment or blessing ahead of a person. The temptation of Jesus Christ is an example.
  2. Direct attack from satan, luring man through lust, cause him/her to do that which is wrong, thus turning him against his God. If anyone falls into temptation, it can lead to a worse situation, even unto death. Remember, Jesus Christ was tempted, and was without sin.

When you are being disciplined, rebuked, tested, tried, persecuted or tempted, make sure it does not lead you to commit sin or to backslide from the faith. To be tempted is not sin, but to fall for temptation is a sin. Hence, our “Lord’s prayer”, “lead us not into temptation”. This should form part of our daily prayer. Nobody is above temptation.

Therefore, if as a child of God you fall into temptation in the New Year, do not allow it to lead to sin, it should be an avenue for correction; view the situation as a way to move you forward, better and higher. Moreover, it should be seen as a way to build a strong man out of you and to bring you nearer to God.

For the Bible says,

“All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28)

4 agents of lust that characterize lustful temptation

Information – refers to real information or misinformation. The aftermath of events after receiving information depends on your action after you have received it. Many Christians have received wrong messages which have caused them to fall for temptation and thus derailed them from the faith. It was misinformation (through lie mixed with truth) that caused Eve to crave for the deception of satan (Gen. 3:1-3). But for our Lord Jesus Christ, the devil’s misinformation (wrongly quoting the scripture) did not cause him to do against the will of God.

In year 2014 whenever you receive any information, either true or false, be on guard. As Christians, the Bible advised that you should put on the whole armor of God; why?  That,

  • You may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil
  • That you may be able to stand in the evil day
  • Having faith in the Lord with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one (Eph.6:10-18)

Spiritual weakness leads to physical weakness. Your spiritual and physical preparedness and ability to move against temptation and overcome is paramount in year 2014 since any information is uncertain until it is proved. Therefore, at first stance, when temptation comes, go into prayer; if possible add a fasting to it; divine intervention will take control. Hence the Bible says,

“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak” (Mk. 14:38).

The lust of the eye – refers to covetousness or greed for possession – materialism. The eye is the main avenue for temptation. Of all the trees in the Garden of Eden that bear fruit and the herbs that God created, Eve coveted the only one that was forbidden to eat. Why? Whatever the eye sees, the heart imputes meaning and the action to follow. If the eye does not see, the heart cannot conceive anything. In one of the temptations of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible states,

“And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.  And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.” (Luke 4:5-6).

The scenery of all the goodies the devil showed to our Lord Jesus would not entice Him to worship the devil. Why is the world in a chaotic situation today? Why are many homes in chaos today? Why are blood relations killing themselves today? Why do nation fight against one another today? Why do we have numerous factions in thechurchofGodtoday? Believers have joined the world and have refused to follow the example of our Lord. What our Lord refused to worship the devil for has become the gods of this modern age inclusive of the elects – power, position, money, possession, fame, career etc. the struggle of many to have one or more of these has drawn many into temptation for their own destruction.

Many things that look good are in fact deadly. Looking at anything is not a problem, but the imputed meaning that the heart applies could bring about temptation. Eve in the Garden of Eden concluded that “it (the forbidden fruit) was pleasant to the eyes”; because it was pleasant, they ate it: what is pleasant to the eye now becomes death train to humanity. Even if the eye causes the heart to input wrong meaning to what is seen, we must guard against falling for any temptation.

Sin does not force itself on the unwilling, but is chosen because of its attraction. The eye has caused many to fall for many deadly attractions because they look good; this is one of the satanic strategies to induce human being into falling for temptation, and thus turning him against his Creator.

Delilah was attractive and beautiful to Samson, he coveted and married her. Delilah became an instrument of death that causes the death of Samson (Judg.16:4-22).

Be on guard in year 2014; Beware of whom your friend is; who your partner is; what you see; what you look for; and who your associates are. Choice of job should not be based on the hugeness of pay, but allow divine judgment to select for you. Not all that glitters are gold.

The lust of the flesh – lack of self-control, the desire to satisfy the body both inward and outward is a big phenomenon in humanity. Lack of satisfaction is the number one sources of man’s problem. The Garden of Eden was filled with varieties of what to eat, why was that not satisfactory enough for Adam and Eve? Man’s appetite is never satisfied. The temptation that Adam and Eve could not restrain from inEden, a similar temptation was what Jesus Christ exercised self-control and did not yield to devil’s enticement. The Bible states,

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body” (1Cor. 6:12-13).

Furthermore, The Bible states,

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank” (Dan. 1:8a)

Daniel did not rise to stardom if not because he was able to control his appetite for food. Joseph did not rise to be second in command to the king of Egypt without mentioning his self-control over devil’s enticement; he fled to avoid committing fornication. We need to know that any unlawful physical activity will affect our spirituality. We should not allow any unrighteous urge, crave or desire to affect our relationship with our God; it will alter our destiny and future.

In the story of Esau and Jacob; Esau, the older brother sold his birthright to his brother Jacob because of hunger and desperation to eat of Jacob’s red stew – lack of self-control for appetite. Jacob demanded for Esau’s birthright in exchange for his stew. Esau said “what is this birthright to me”. For this careless unmindful utterance, Esau lost all the blessings and entitlement of a first born to Jacob.

Lust for the flesh is revealed in the following sins; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling etc.

Anyone who cannot exercise self control will fall into the temptation of committing any of the above.

The pride of life

In another temptation of our Lord Jesus, the Bible states,

“And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God” (Luke 4: 9-12).

The pinnacle of the temple is a metaphor of a lofty peak; the highest or culminating, a success, power fame etc. it can also refer to a child of God who has reached the climax of an achievement in life. Jesus Christ is the highest peak, the highest authority, the highest spirituality of the church. However, Jesus would not yield to the command of the devil neither would He tempt God because He’s equal in all things with the father; no, that would amount to pride.

A person of high position or who has reached the climax of any achievement would be overwhelm with pride; either intentionally or by default. At this point, he/she would take things for granted. The devil has blinded many Christians in that their attitudes after being elevated betray the Christianity they once professed.

It is unfortunate that many people who have prayed earnestly to God and were granted the privilege to get to stardom in life have turn around to bite the finger which fed them. They have replaced the position they once created for God in their lives with their achievement and position. They don’t have time for God in their daily schedule anymore. They now worship their vain self-glory. Pride causes a Christian to backslide and work independent of God.

The children of Israel came back home after they were defeated by the Philistines in order to carry the ark of the Lord; thinking that the Ark would save them. They were defeated again; the Ark of the Lord failed them and was captured. The two son of Eli were killed; why? They tempted God; thinking that the presence of the ark which represents the presence of the Lord would give them victory; whereas, many in Israel have sinned against God and were corrupt; from the sons of the high priest to the least (1Sam. 4:1-11).

Being a child of God does not mean you have to test Him by doing what is contrary to His will; or trying to play around danger which the spirit of God warns you of. In order to overcome temptation, do not take the word of God wrongly or with levity. This is why many Christians run into diverse problems and they call it temptations. You wouldn’t expect God to deliver you from law enforcement officer when you sped above speed limit, which is against the law of the land.

Obedience to the law of God and working in the spirit are key guide to avoid falling for temptation. Obedience to the law of the land which does not conflict with the law of God will protect you from suffering as a lawbreaker. When you suffer as a lawbreaker, don’t call it temptation, you are tempting God because you want Him to intervene in your wrong doing.

There are some spirits behind some manifestations of pride that must be rebuked and mortified – obstinacy, adamancy, arrogance; they can lead one to destruction.

The need to be enlightened

Satan is the sole originator of temptation and he uses man, evil spirits and forces in the wicked places as his agents. He offers all manner of enticements to lure a believer to disobey God and lead him to destruction. The heart’s desires and wishes of every man are never satisfied as long as he remains without salvation in Christ. He is always inclining to satisfy these desires in any way possible without minding the source, whether it is legitimate or illegitimate; righteous or unrighteous. He is not even mindful of the consequence of his action; whether it leads to life or death.

Because of this desirous intent, which is one of man’s weaknesses; satan sees it as an avenue to get to man, tempts him and make him do that which is wrong and turn him against his Creator. Temptation has then become a vital tool, which satan has been using from beginning of the world to turn man against his Creator.

God’s thought for His children is that of peace, and not evil. Satan foresees all these blessings and would do anything to stop Christians from obtaining them. Satan accomplishes his mission by putting temptation before the children of God. This temptation could come in form of the followings

  • Enticements and shortcut to lure to error
  • Frustration and delay to cause denial of God
  • Obstacles and difficulties to cause backsliding

Most temptations come because of our strong desire for worldly things and will want to obtain it ‘at all cost’, regardless of how, where and what the result of obtaining it will be.

Beware of the following baits

  1. Do not yield to satan ministration, you will likely be enticed or induced. (1Jn. 5:18)
  2. Recognize the wiles of the devil; they may lead one to fall for temptation.  (2Cor. 2:11)
  3. Avoid doubt and negativity to avoid caving in to temptation.
  4. Incessant sinning is the result of diverse temptations because the word of God has no place in the erred.

Preventing and avoiding temptation

  • The first recommendation for a believer is to avoid temptation and this can be achieved only when you are genuinely born again. (1Jn. 5:18)
  • Let the word of God help you to overcome temptation; keep it in your heart and use them as at when necessary. (Ps. 119:11)
  • Do not compromise your faith for the fear of known and unknown. Daniel knew the consequences of disobeying the king’s law, but he was never moved but stood by his faith. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not compromise their faith for the fear of the burning furnace. Do not compromise your faith because of economic, political, terrorism, debt, mortgage or whatever situation that causes fear. Stand in the faith and trust the Lord to help you overcome.
  •  Avoid devil’s territory; it is an avenue for temptation. (1Cor. 7:5; Eph. 4:26b-27)
  • Don’t be too hasty or rush into getting rich. (1Tim. 6:9) wait for God’s timing. Shortcut produces fake or second best and not the best.
  • Beware of besetting sin which is a sign of spiritual unfruitfulness (backsliding) – Dema went back into the world having being a former follower of Apostle Paul.
  • Be sober and vigilant. (1Pet. 5;8-10)
  • Be spirit filled. (Gal. 5:16)
  • Put on the whole armor of God. (Eph. 6:10)
  • Pray always not to enter into temptation.
  • In as much as it is possible, avoid burden of owing – owing a bank, a person or burden of credit card. Cut your coat within your means. Do not allow any lack to cause you drown yourself into any unnecessary debt.
  • Avoid pride. (Pro. 16:18)
  • There is the need to control your appetite. Esau could not control his appetite; he lost his birthright and subsequent blessing.
  • There is the need to control your urge. – Rueben could not control his urge; he lost the position and blessing of a first born.

  • Magnify the Lord; praise His holy name in psalms and with praise worship every day.
  • Thank the Lord for His goodness and His activities in your life in the past – gift of life, physical and spiritual blessings, endowments, healing, protection, provision, deliverance over sin and its power, victories, divine attractions, promotion etc..
  • Acknowledge, confess your sins and repent – that you may receive mercy, forgiveness and a refreshing time from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19).
  • Pray for sanctification – cleansing by the blood of Christ, purification, word of God, spiritual washing, purging from sin; pruning and divine transformation.
  • Pray against – sins and its power; manifestation, trigger and pressure of sin; flesh, temptations and defilement; guilt, penalty and curse of sin; and all those things which work against the will of God.

In year 2014, in unavoidable temptation, try to endure (Patience); face it and keep moving, while abiding continually with the Lord. This is the temptation experience by the children of God. (Dan.6:16-17; 6:19-24). The Bible says “blessed is the man who endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life…” (Jas. 1:12).

Blame no one for your temptation. Follow the praying pattern of Jesus Christ (Mk. 1:35); because he is the only one who has been tempted and did not sin. Resist the devil as Jesus did (Jas. 4:7)

God promised a way out of any temptation;. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1Cor. 10:13). Only believe, have faith, trust and rest in the Lord to help in any situation you find yourself (Ps. 37:3-8). No temptation is permanent.
