(HAGGAI 1:5)

The words of the Lord by Haggai the prophet saying

  • “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; consider your ways.” (Haggai 1:5-6, also read Jas 4:1-6)

The returning children ofIsraelcame back from the exile of 70 years to start a new life in their land. The merciful God had compassion and pitied their conditions while in captivity. As a faithful God, he stood by his promise as revealed by Jeremiah the prophet that He (the Lord) would bring the Israelites back to their land after serving a heathen king for 70 years. At the end of this period of servitude, God caused every situation to favor them and brought them back to start a new life and a new beginning.

The First thing that they did was to build a temple where they would worship the Lord. Read the rest of the story from Ezra Chapter 1-6

First and foremost

The bible declared that

“But seek ye first thekingdomofGod, and his righteousness; and all these things (your cares) shall be added unto you.” (Matt 6:33)

While the Israelites were building the temple, they were faced with many obstacles. These Obstacles are the works of the devil. One of his strategies is to put obstacles or stumbling block before the children of God, thereby preventing them from worshipping the Lord of which the repercussion deters the progress or stop them from achieving their goal.

Consider yourself as being one of those favored by the almighty God; see yourself starting a new beginning today; starting another milestone in your life and another aspirations for new desires and goals. Just as the Israelites started by building a house of worship for the Lord, don’t you think it is fit to start by providing for the house of the Lord?

As said earlier, the Israelites were faced with obstacles. These obstacles became hindrances that disturb their progress spiritually, physically, emotionally and materially. Any Obstacle or hindrance that disturbs the children of God from worshipping put a distance between them and God. A defeat in the spiritual realm is a defeat in its manifestation in the physical and material world.

It is therefore necessary as a child of God to guard yourself. “All these thing” (your cares) that shall be added will come, but the voice of that prophet echoes again; “Consider your ways” so that the devil will not put an obstacle, hindrance or stumbling block in your way.’

These Obstacles reveal themselves in different forms and ways. You must be spirit filled before you can know them. There are 2 sources of these obstacles.

  1. The Obstacle from Without; Will come in form of adversaries, spiritual and physical attacks and natural disasters. These obstacles are meant to weaken, discourage, frustrate and to create fear in you. Thereby not allowing you to achieve your goals.
  2. The Obstacles within: they are those created by you. These obstacles from without will overwhelm you if you fail to rid yourself of all lustful activities. If you are overwhelmed with sin and cares of this world, you will be weak spiritually. The book of proverbs 24:10 declares that

“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”

Spiritual weakness leads to physical weakness. Your physical and spiritual ability to move offensively to achieve and meet goals; and defensively to face and overcome obstacles will be deterred.

Success is like a flying scroll. It will rest and abide with those who consider their ways. Make your way straight with the Lord. Do and invest into the work of God.

How do you become successful?

  1.  Avoid
    1. Sin: Counts you not worthy before God
    2. Self-will (Idolatry) : Agent of other sins
    3. Unbelief and Murmuring : Cause delay and failure
    4. Covetousness : remember Achan and Judas Iscariot destructions
    5. Rebellion and Gain saying: the act of speaking of negatives of the man of God in the church. (1 Sam. 26:9, 1 Chro.16:22)
    6. Unrighteous gains: way and greediness of Balaam (2 Peter 2: 14-15)
    7. Mistake of Esau: Do not settle for second best. You will lose your rights.
    8. Unfaithfulness –  Remember Ananias and Sapphire (Act 5: 1-11)
    9. Impatience
  2. Do the Following
    1. Consider your ways: Seek first thekingdomofGodand its righteousness by doing and investing in to the house of God (Haggai 1:5-6)
    2. Put on the whole armor of God: (Eph 6: 10 – 18)
  • That you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil
  •  That you may be able to withstand in the evil day
  • That you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked
  1. Humble yourself and fear God (Jas 4:10, Proverb 22:4)
  2. Watch and pray (Matt 26:41, Luke 21:36, 1 Corinthians 10:12, 1 Peter 5:8)
  3. Be spiritually minded and walk in the spirit. You shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal 5:16,Rome8:6)

Consider the ways, emulate and put on the godly traits of these ancient men and women of God which are – Righteousness of Noah; Faith of Abraham; Obedience of Isaac, endurance and ‘fear of God’ of Joseph; Dislike of Evil of Job; Praise of God of Jehoshaphat; After the heart of God of David; Self denial of Daniel; Praying and praising of Paul and Silas; Devotion of Cornelius; Good works of Dorcas.

Their success was not without obstacles, but they overcame because they consider their ways to please God and they receive favor.

Have you considered your ways?.

  1. Magnify and thank the Lord for sparing you life to see today
  2. Confess your sin and ask for forgiveness, mercy, plea the blood of Jesus to purge and cleanse you.
  3. Pray for new clean heart and right spirit.
  4. Pray for deliverance and prevention from any form of sin.
  5. The Samaritans were the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin when they returned from exile. They are the blood brothers ofJudah. Who is your nearest blood that is your adversary? Pray for protection from adversaries that are of your blood; of your father and mothers relations; that of your associates and at place of work.
  6. One major strategy of the adversary is to accuse you before principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Pray

  • Against every judgments made upon you by any power on behalf of your adversary
  • That God will turn the counsel of your enemy and adversaries to nothing
  • That God wipe away every hand writings of bond made against you.
  • That God turn around the judgments of the enemy and your adversary to favor you (Ezra 6:6-8)
  1. The influence of adversaries on children of God is to create fear, weaken, discourage and frustrate every purpose of their desire and goal.

Pray that God will equip you with his strength; his power; his spirit; boldness and courage so that you will not faint in the day of adversity.

  1. Pray that the Lord stirs your spirit to sow for his work.

Your rewards as you consider your ways;

You will sow much and bring much; you will eat and be satisfy; you will drink and not thirsty; you will be clothed and stay warm; and you will earn wages and have enough to spend and save because the Lord will rebuke devourers. You will not save in a bag that has hole. Consider your ways to please the Lord.
