childrens sermon imgThe utterance spoken from the mouth, is the word. The word that we speak has different meaning attached to it. Word may signify blessings, information, rumor, promises, command, praises, curses, songs and so forth. However, to Christians, the word of God to us is the word of the Bible.

The word of God is spoken, either directly or through His servants to His children. The word of God during creation was a pronouncement and the word was backed up by a powerful action. When God speaks, an action follows: His command or pronouncement causes reality. God said it and it was done, that is power. He is not a man who can lie or whose word is unstable.

It is evident that the main purpose that God created the earth is to have a habitation for man created in His own image. All the creations before man were for man’s necessities.

God’s command during creation was in form of “God said, let there/the…” (Gen.1), what follows was appearance of what was commanded. Up until this moment, what God said and the action that follows has never change. The light, the sky, the water, the land, the vegetation, the sun and the moon, the living creatures, all has remained as they were created.

History and archeological discoveries has proven that what the entire Bible recorded as spoken by God did actually happen. Advice to all Christians is not to take the word of God on the surface, but act accordingly as instructed.

Jesus, the word of God

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (Jn. 1:1-4)

The above passage tells us that Jesus is the word: The same word that God uses during creation. This passage also shows the relationship between Jesus and the Father that they are inseparable and both were instrumental to God’s creation.

The power that follows God’s word is Jesus in action. This is the reason when Jesus came to us in form of man; every word that He spoke was backed with power and action. For example, Jesus heals, He performed miracles, He preached good tidings, and He shows us the way to life eternal.

What the spoken word is to Christians

God the father spoke the word in the beginning, Jesus Christ is the word, and we saw the power, which is the action that follows, that is, the fulfillment of what was spoken. The creation of the earth and all that are in it.

Christians as followers of Christ must obey the word of God as written in the Bible. The thought of God concerning us can only manifest only if we adhere to that which He had instructed. In order for all His promises to be backed by power and action in our lives, we must obey His word to letter.
