“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”      (Ps. 84:11)

Provision of the Lord can mean at the same time the blessings of the Lord. Provision of the Lord is unlimited, for it covers everything that a man needs to live a fulfilled life. Before you can enjoy full provisions from the Lord, you must deserve it, by loving God and obedient to His commandments. However, if we have to weigh ourselves on the balance of whether or not we love God and obedient to his commandments, I doubt if any man can merits having these provisions. All we need to do is to praise the Lord for His love, grace, mercy and compassion towards us.

 God as a Sun

The quotation above figuratively describes our God as sun, because He sees all and knows all. He who created light is more than light himself and there is nothing hidden from Him. The functions of the sun are part of the attributes of our God. The Lord is the source of man’s power, energy, strength and divine health. Through the sun, photosynthesis takes place in plant and is able to produce food; the Lord is the creator of the sun, therefore, the Lord is the source for all foods which sustains man. The Lord is God of nature and His power as sun maintains climatic order of the earth (wind, rainfall, temperature, humidity etc.).

However, as good as it is to receive light and food from the sun, we do not want to experience the heat of the Almighty God; especially, when we fail to love and obey His commandments.

God as Shield

Our God as shield figuratively indicates He is our protector and our defense. In time of danger, He covers us without our knowledge of how He did it. Every human being involves in one spiritual and/or physical battle from time to time in life. Physical and spiritual darts are fired every day at children of God, but the Lord will not allow any of the darts to hit us. Have you ever imagine how it has been well with you all the time and to another it has been the opposite. Who averted all the evil missiles that were fired from the world of darkness and wicked spirits of the evil sphere? Who hide you from all natural disasters that destroy lives every day? Who guide you from taking a wrong step in your undertakings? The Lord who is shield conceals you from every danger and harm.

God gives grace and glory liberally

If the Lord will give grace and glory to all, how much more He will give to those who fear and love Him. The grace of God is what we know as favor or good will. This grace is freely given, and not in consideration of any claim or merit. However, because we believe in His only begotten Son, this unmerited favor or the working of God manifests in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Through this unmerited favor, the power of the Holy Spirit, and out of the fullness of God, we are blessed.

For the fact that our God is as a Sun and shield, everything appears in light, in brightness and in radiance. It shows that the presence of the Lord is among His people at every moment in life, this is God’s glory. The glory of the Lord is as in form of cloud in the days of Moses and as Jesus in this present day. His glory is the divine truth, which proceeds from the Lord to us as individual and to others for the glory of God.

In the light of these few characteristics, every provision that a man needs on earth falls under the umbrella of the Almighty God’s provisions. Every blessing that is given falls under the provisions of God.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.  Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures” (Jas. 1:17-18).

Most of the time, God comes near His faithful people to meet their needs, because He sees and knows their situation. He provided for Elijah’s need in the wilderness, and protected him from the wicked Jezebel. He satisfied the desires of Sarah, Ruth and Hannah. As He provided in the olden days, He still provides in no measure in this end time.

How does one enjoy God’s provision?

For you to really enjoy the Lord’s provision to the fullest, you must have a sound association with Him by.

  • Loving Him wholeheartedly in obedience, loyalty and service above all else.
  • Fear Him, which is to reverence Him in all your ways
  • Walk in His ways
  • Hold fast to Him
  • Serve Him
  • Depend on Him
  • Trust Him
  • Delight in Him
  • Seek Him
  • Commit you ways unto Him
  • Rest in Him and wait patiently for His appointed time

David, the man after the heart of God said in one of his psalms that

“The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” (Ps. 34:7-10)
