Every human being lives a life that is full of uncertainties. The journey of life and the process of any undertaking is not a smooth one as expected by many. As the day goes by, every situation becomes anew.  No day is alike. Sometimes, situation may look alike; still, they are never the same. Variations occur.

Prayer – pray that every situation in year 2011 works to your advantage.

At the beginning of every year, the uncertainties that lie ahead pose to be speculative problems, which resemble the gigantic stature of the man called, Goliath, whose appearance becomes dreadful and fearful to children of God   (1Sam. 17).
The battles, which the Israelites fought against their enemies, correspond to conflicts, which take place within the mind and heart of every regenerating believer. They are warfare, which we have to fight because they are bent to destroying us.

Prayer – pray to be an over-comer in year 2011

Year 2011 will resemble the situation David found himself when he was to deliver victuals for his brothers in the camp of the Israelites at the war front. Year 2011 may look like a war front, however, relax, the God of David and the God of our Lord Jesus Christ is still very much with us to deliver us from any “Goliath” that crosses our path

Prayer – pray for deliverance from any “Goliath” that crosses your path in year 2011

David heard Goliath’s challenge

“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named     Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span…

“And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why     are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye     servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me…
“And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man,     that we may fight together.

When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were     dismayed, and greatly afraid” (1Sam. 17:4-11).

What the year echoes is not something to be worried about. I know that “breaking news” today has nothing to do with good news, but frightening and scary ones. All we hear in news is as if the world is ending immediately. Everyone is living at the mercy of the unknown and the world organized cultic rulers.

Prayer – pray for deliverance from the fear of the unknown and every power that would enslaves you in year 2011

We should not forget that we are children of the Lord of host. Our challenges need not scared us, but should remind us that the Lord has been and will always fight our battle. Saul and the host of the army of Israel forgot the power of their God when faced with the challenges of Goliath.

Forgetfulness of God’s past deliverance diminishes one’s confidence in the face of present challenges. The unknown and whatever manifests in year 20111should not scare us to the extent of forgetting not to commit our ways into the hand of the Lord who is always responsible for our victory.

Prayer – pray for confidence to face all challenges in year 2011

To David, he did not forget God, but he remembered how God had delivered him from a more deadly situation in previous encounters. He said,
“The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of           the hand of this Philistine”                (Sam. 17:37).

He spoke and assured the king Saul for victory. Our being alive today is an evidence and testimony of God’s victory of the past. That should boost our faith to trust the Lord for victory over the “Goliath” of our lives.

Prayer – pray for testimony that will make you a source of inspiration to those who need spiritual and physical uplifting in year 2011

Distractions in year 2011

The journey this year will be full of distracting challenges that are tending to stop or slow us down; however, they are brawling of the Goliath, not a killer. As Christians, see every challenge as an entrance into your victory, your success and your uplifting. Do not allow any distraction to stop you from moving forward.

While the host of Israel’s army was afraid of Goliath, David was not afraid but confident in the Lord to give him victory over Goliath. The following distractions would have cost David his victory and fame for that day.

•    The stature of Goliath
•    The brawling of Goliath
•    Opposition from his brother
•    Discouragement from Saul
•    The conventional army gadgets would have been an encumbrance on David

Likewise, this year challenges may resemble the above in the form of

•    Unimaginable boisterous general and personal challenges – health, economy, bills etc
•    The scaring and frightening news about the state of the economy – insurance, unemployment, inflation etc
•    Oppositions and threats to achieving your goal or undertaking
•    Discouragement that hinders progress – capital, policies,
•    Physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological weaknesses

Prayer – pray against these and more distractions that will come your way in year 2011

Do not allow any distraction

David replied his brothers when accused of pride and insolence, “Is there not a cause” (Sam. 17:29), and he turned away from them. In the same vein, we have to turn away from any distraction and focus on the Lord as we progress during the year.

Every moment this year is significant and divinely ordained for a purpose. David’s presence in the battlefield is more than supplying victuals to his brothers, but

•    moment to expose the hidden treasure in him;
•    moment to manifest the anointing power upon him;
•    moment for his star to glow;
•    moment of displaying God’s sovereignty in his life;
•    moment of his breakthrough;
•    moment of tapping into his potential; and
•    moment of his promotion from being a shepherd to being a captain

Prayer – pray for these moments to manifest in your life in year 2011

Be bold; cast away fear

Without allowing any distraction, David went ahead to confront Goliath who has been brawling and defying the God of Israel; he then prepared his weapon, which he had with him; a staff, five smooth stones and a sling.

Prayer – pray for divine preparedness to face any goliath in year 2011                                                                                          pray for divine empowerment for victory

David with confidence approached Goliath in the name of the Lord of host, not in his power or any gadgets or weapon of war. No wonder, he did not have to sweat before attaining victory. Victory is not attained by experience or power.
His slingshot was divinely empowered, for no one can conceive the path or speed at which the stone travelled and how the stone found the opening at goliath’s head. No human weapon can protect from goliath of life, the Lord does not save with sword or spear.

Do not belittle yourself or what you have; it may be your weapon for your breakthrough. Remember the mustard seed? The smallest of all seeds; however, it grew to be big.

Prayer – pray for sweat-less victory in all your undertakings in year 2011

Earthly weapon will fail

The following Goliath’s earthly weapons failed him
1.    A bronze helmet on his head
2.     Armed with a coat of mail weighing 5000 shekels of bronze
3.    Bronze armor on his legs
4.    A shield
5.    Bronze javelin
6.    A spear with iron spearhead of 600 shekels
7.    A sword
These earthly weapons cannot win a battle if used independent of God. Despite all the offensive and defensive weapons, ordinary slingshot that was soaked in the power of God, penetrated through the opening in the bronze helmet into the skull of Goliath and killed him.

Prayer – pray against the spirit of complacency not to hinder your victory

Spiritual weapons for victory

As Christians, our weapon for victory in year 2011 is in our hand, not in another man’s hand neither it has to be ordered nor borrowed. The conventional army gadgets worn on David were an encumbrance. We have been equipped since the day we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord. The Bible says

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to   the pulling down of strong holds;)         Casting down imaginations, and every     high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing     into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2Cor. 10:4-5).

Prayer – pray against every strong hold of satan that is set against you;                                                                                              pray for the casting down of evil imagination made against you;                                                                                         pray against any evil thought made against you to go into captivity

Our weapon is not external but internal. Everything we have been taught as Christians has now become our weapon for victory, just as David has been trained in his slingshot.

In contrast to the Goliath’s weapons, Christian’s weapons are not manmade. It is called armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18).

1.    Truth – our body guard
2.    Righteousness – our mind protector
3.    Evangelism – our power to salvation
4.    Faith – our missile deflector
5.    Salvation – our helmet
6.    Word of God – our offensive sword
7.    Prayer –our power generator

Prayer – pray for the grace to hold these spiritual ammunitions as part of you

In addition to these spiritual ammunitions, we need extra oil to make us fully immune to any attack in the New Year. The extra oil is the fruit of the spirit –  love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance (Gal. 5:22-23).

Prayer – pray for the empowerment to display the fruit of the spirit without missing one

Your “sling-shot”

All these combine is the Christian’s “sling-shot”. It adequately prepared us face any giant that will want to stand in our way of success or the uncertainties and speculative problems that may surface this year. Any missing aspect of the spiritual ammunitions and the fruit of the spirit open the hole for the enemies sling shot to penetrate us.

Why would David bring his weapon with him to the war front when he was only told to deliver victuals? A Christian must always be spiritually prepared. You must not leave home without your “slingshot” this year. Leaving your slingshot at home is like walking without the spirit of God; is like ignoring God to commit sin; is like going the way of the world and forsaking the truth, way and life.

Prayer – pray against the spirit of forgetfulness that will make you forget your sling-shot at home in year 2011

Slingshot therefore, demonstrates
•    Trusting in God for victory
•    Believing in the word of God
•    Believing God for His promises
•    Boldly confronting all challenges in the name of Jesus Christ
•    Believing in what you know and do best
•    Believing in your undertakings
•    Positively, pursuing your goal
•    By faith, believe you have achieved

This year, we should view all challenges from divine perspective in order to allow the Lord to display His power. David says the battle is the Lord’s. That is the proper perspective. We should not allow any dreadful or frightening situation to scare us. Anything that did not kill you before you notice it is a brawling Goliath; it cannot kill you.

God delivers His children i.e. those who put their trust in Him to overcome overwhelming odds. Just like any other years, we cannot run away from the odds or challenges; however, out of the odds shall spring forth our victory, our success, our breakthrough and our promotion.

Prayer – pray that, any shame meted for you to turn to fame.

Therefore, in year 2011, the Bible tells us, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” (Heb. 10:22-23).
