This is a prayer bulletin for year 2012 and beyond

The Lord response to Moses’ petition,

“My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest” (Ex. 33:14)

At the commencement of the Israelites journey to the promise land, the Lord had commanded Moses to lead the Israelites to the promise land in order to fulfill His promise which He made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. However, in the light of the waywardness of the Israelites, they do not deserve the fulfillment of this promise. Why? Before this event, the Israelites had disobeyed the commandment of the Lord; under the leadership of Aaron, and had created and worshipped a molded image. They provoked the Lord to anger.

For their disobedience, the Lord said He would not go up with them, which is to say, He would not lead them to the promise land, He described them as stiff-necked and disobedient. But the Lord said He would send His angel to lead them. This was a bad news to them; because after the Law had been given, the Lord had said

“Behold, I send an angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared” (Ex. 23:20).

However, this promise was conditional. They must obey him in order not to provoke him, because he will not pardon their transgression. If the presence of the Lord will not go up with them, it means they were in danger of not reaching the promise land. If they disobeyed the angel as they had disobeyed the Lord, they would be consumed in the wilderness.

I want you to see your entrance into year 2012 as the beginning of your journey to your promise land. The promise of God to Moses here is the wish of every believer as they journey into a new year. We all need the presence of the Lord as we proceed in it. No other gods combined is able to lead you through the journey, nor is there any idol of the heart, neither is there any ideology that makes one to be an over-comer in journey of life.

What it means “My presence will go with you”

It may mean part or the whole of these statements;

  • My face will guide and guard you in year 2012
  • I will give you manifestations of my grace and goodness in year 2012

Or in prayer form,

  • As at when required, let Your presence appears in my behalf in year 2012.
  • Let Your presence go with us in year 2012.

The presence of the Lord signifies that we as children of God, through His grace, we will overcome in our entire endeavor; and He will give us rest. It is God’s grace which we do not merit, bur His free gift for us.

Why it is necessary for the Lord to go with us

Prior to the petition of Moses, the children ofIsraelhad provoked God to anger. The Israelites demanded a god from Aaron to lead them to the promise land; however, that idol cost them many adversities. The presence of God does not cohabit with idolatry. The Lord said He would not share His glory with anything. If you are self-centered and you want to be independent of God in year 2012, your journey could be rough and dangerous.

Idolatry is a grievous offense. Some of the present day idolatry is related to unbelief, idol of the heart: also, ideology, freedom and human right of which there is nothing bad in itself; however, many believers have taken it the way of the world and have turn it to be an occasion to embrace sin.

In a situation where natural disaster and social unrest is increasing in the world today; the economy of the world is as bad as unimaginable and as many failing solutions have been proffered by the reasoning of human intelligence and ideology; I think it is necessary to approach the throne of grace for God’s mercy and favor in order to have success in year 2012.

Moreover, to move forward without the presence of God into the New Year can be dreadful and dangerous. Every journey of life or undertaking is full of many uncertainties. Here is a new year we have never travelled before; therefore, we need divine lead in order to make it to the end.

Lessons from Israelites error at Sinai

 Israel had sinned

Israeldisobeyed God’s commandments. God was not ready to go with them because they have sinned and neglected Him. When the presence of God is missing in the life journey of a person, that person forfeited God’s favorable presence, the benefit and comfort from the Lord.

God timing

Moses delayed from coming down from Mount Sinai, that caused the rebellion act of creating an image by the children ofIsrael. In year 2012, rely on God’s timing, and do not allow any divine delay (not procrastination) to frustrate you, whereby you shift your reliance on man, angel or substance. Rest and wait patiently for the Lord’s timing (Ps 37:3-7).

Aaron misled Israel

Aaron created an image, an abomination and a grievous sin against God’s commandment. This act arouses God’s wrath. In year 2012, do not allow any one to mislead you in believing what is not in accordance with the word of God. The Bible admonishes us to test all spirit

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world…”(1Jn. 4:1)

One of the offenses the Lord counted againstIsraelwas that it had turn aside to worship other gods.

 Israel blasphemed

Israelsaid “This is your god, O Israel that brought you out of thelandofEgypt”. The Lord had said, He would not give His glory to another or His praise to carved images (Is. 42:8). A child of God must appreciate God for their success, not man.

Israel defiled itself

The people were defiled with food offered to an idol. Apostle Paul admonishes that you do not defile yourself or engage in any form of corruption or anything that does not edifies you or your fellow Christian; neither should you engage in anything that would not edify the Lord. You are the epistle that the unbelievers are watching.

 Wages of sin

Moses came back from the mountain with unpleasantries when he met the Israelites wallowing in their sin. The result of their sinful nature was evident in these series of unpleasantries that followed their disobedience.

  • There was wrath
  • There was judgment
  • There was separation of the evil ones
  • There was killing
  • There was death
  • There was consecration

It is dangerous for a child of God who wallows in sin. In order to avoid any unpleasantries, we need the presence of the Lord to go with us this year. We don’t have the righteousness to attract this, however we need an intercessor, an advocate to plead our case.

Moses interceded for Israel

Moses interceded on behalf ofIsraeland the Lord relented from His former decision not to go up with them to the promise land. But for Moses plea, the Lord promised His presence to go up with them. Moses stood in the position of Christ, our intercessor and our advocate, who pleaded on our behalf every moment and saved us from ruin. Through Christ we found grace in God’s sight. Let us find that grace in our heart to give us life through the journey of the New Year.

Apostle John wrote,

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1Jn. 2:1-2).

When the Lord looked at the righteousness of Christ, He relented from the harm which we deserved because of our sin. What a grace!

Again, the Bible says

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (Jn. 3:16-17).

The genuineness of our salvation could be the deciding factor for our breakthrough this year. Note that our salvation does not end in our justification (being called a Christian); however, how we continue in our sanctification (separated from sin and separated apart for God) would determine whether or not the presence of the Lord will go with us as we progress in the New Year.

Today, Jesus Christ our redeemer did more on our behalf than what Moses did for the Israelites, in that He paid for our ransom by humbling himself even unto the death on the cross, thus for the sake of humanity, He died and saved us. Through Christ we obtained the remover of curse and assurance of blessing: and we obtained everlasting happiness.

For the Lord’s presence to go with us this year we need rededication and commitment of our lives to the Lord; we need to put up an attitude that will attract us more to Him.

Our attitudes in year 2012

  1. Do not allow anyone to make you do that which is contrary to the word of God – Aaron claimed that the people caused him to make an idol. No, there should be no excuse that someone misled you. You are responsible for your own action.
  2. Let your faith be only on God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of God’s gracious promise and mercy, that His presence will be with us, let that encourage our faith and be fervent in prayer throughout the year.
  3. Be obedient to the word of God. One of the benefits of obedience is that, “I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries (Ex. 23:22)
  4. Beware of provocation; do not provoke the Lord to anger; do not provoke others and do not give in to provocation. Knowing fully that we have all sinned and we deserved God’s wrath; however, we are saved by His grace – Jesus.
  5. Whatever does not glorify God in your life, you need to put it off – pride, arrogance, self-centeredness, disobedience and all the likes. They are encumbrances that blocks answers to prayers.
  6. Humble yourself before God (Ex. 33:4-6). Note how Moses presented his case before the Lord, with humility. He recognized he could do nothing and the need for divine lead. He presented his petition in humbleness of heart, not in selfishness; but as an intercessor that care for his people.
  7. Have a meaningful relationship with God this year. Create your tabernacle away from the gathering of sinners. Separate yourself from every evil and ungodly association (Ps. 1:1-). We live in the world but we are not of the world. Association with the world is the quickest way to compromise with sin and immoral behavior.
  8. Be spiritually at alert. Do not wait until bad things happen before you seek the Lord. Make seeking God your priority
  9. Your journey is by faith, not by sight. The journey, your undertakings and your adventure in year 2012 must be pursued in faith. Sight scenery is scary, it deters or stops progress.
  10. Ministers and believers, beware not to cause your fellow believer to stumble. Be on guard against sinful tendency.

“All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not” (1Cor. 10:23).

  1. Do not be deceived by the lies and wiles of the world. Do not join multitude to rebel against God or any Authority. We must recognize the sovereignty of the Almighty God as Him who delivered and saved us from the perils of the past.
  2. You need to pray always with the prayer and supplication in the spirit. Moses was very précised and earnest with God for his petition.

Manifestations of the presence of God

 God’s glory is revealed

It is when you have put up the attitudes that attract the presence of God that you would be able to claim the promise of the Lord that His presence will go with you and you will have rest.

What follows the presence of God or proof of His presence was that Moses demanded to see the glory of God. The Lord granted him. He saw the Lord’s glory; how? The Lord invited him to the mountain to experience His glory. On the mountain, the Lord immersed Moses in the cleft of the rock where Moses could see the goodness and glory of God.

This rock is Horeb, themountainofGodwhich typified Christ, the Rock; the Rock of refuge, Rock of salvation and our strength. This year, we need to stand on the Rock; let us hide ourselves in the cleft of the rock – Jesus Christ. Let us remember and sing this common but spiritual song throughout the year.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in thee;

Let the water and the blood,

From thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure;

Save from wrath and make me pure.

Renewal of Covenant

Covenant of the Lord will be reestablished in our lives – Moses received a new commandment. The presence of the Lord will help and give us success in our step-by-step endeavor; whereby, it will demonstrate to the world around us that our help and success is really the work of the true and merciful God who would not count our past deed against us but will renew His covenant with us, because of our faith Jesus Christ.

 Inward and outward transformation

If we draw closer to God, our proximity to His presence will transform us inwardly spiritually; and outwardly physically, healthy, materially and financially.

Shower of blessing

In the presence of God is fullness of joy (Ps. 16:11). The Bible says, “The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup, thou maintained my lot. The lines (blessings) are fallen unto me in pleasant places, yes, I have a goodly inheritage” (Ps. 16:5-6). Manifestation of God’s glory, renewal of covenant, divine transformation attracts God’s blessings.

Divine lead and protection

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared” (Ex. 23:20)

An angel is God’s messenger (one of His weapon of war) by which the Lord can safeguard His children’s in whatever they intended. An angel will destroy 185,000 of our enemies in one night (2Ki. 19:35). This is the Lord’s promise for us in 2012.

Prayer points for the New Year

Moses prayed this petition and the Lord granted him.

“now therefore, I pray thee, if I found grace in thy sight, (1)show me now thy way, (2)that I may know thee, (3)that I may find grace in thy sight: and (4)consider that this nation is thy people” (Ex.33:13)

Likewise, we need to bring our petitions before the Lord as we progress in the New Year. I believe, with the right attitude, the Lord will grant us.
