Does the word or the prophecy of God affect a particular group of people? No, it affects every living person. The Bible says “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Ps. 24:1). Therefore, His word is binding on all human being, be you American, Asian, or African.

The word of God is a part of the body of a believer. If the body looses a part, it is no more complete. It is like salt that loses its savor, worthless. Similarly, a believer devoid of the word of God is worthless, very dangerous to the community of the children of God.

How people receive the word of God

The parable of the Sower (Matt. 13:1-23) illustrates four classes of believers, how they receive and take the word of God.

  1. The hearer of the word, but not the doer
  2. The hearer of the word, but the doer for a short period
  3. The hearer of the word, but pretends to be the doer
  4. The hearer who obeys and the doer of the word

A “Christian” is a hearer and a doer of the word. The heart of a Christian is like the humus soil that receives the seed; it grows and produces great fruit, because it was free from deterrents, distraction, hindrances and disturbances, which can take away the word from his heart.

Erroneous concept of the word by some believers

The Word!

The word are spoken words of God, Jesus and inspired God’s men, written in the Bible. The law, the prophet, the gospel and the Holy Spirit, all work toward salvation of man, intended to impact the thinking, habit, speech, characteristics and behavior of a born again Christian.

However, there are some ministers and believers, who believed only in one of the Testaments as against the whole Bible. Can the Bible be separated into two? Was Jesus not the fulfillment of the whole law? Were not the whole books in the Bible interrelated?

Some say the Old Testament were not all true, but they believe in the word of Christ. Some who are vindictive preferred to work with the law, because they can retaliate. Many twist the word to suit their selfish purpose.

A major problem with believers is that they failed to apply biblical truth into their lives; inclining to hear or reading the Bible, but failed to be the doer of the word (Jas. 1:23)

How to keep the word

  • In your heart – the Bible says, “Your word I have hid in mine heart that I might not sin against Thee” (Ps. 119:11).  The word of the Bible should not be a logo (a pointer or decoration), but as rhema ( a working application). The word must be meaningful and produces an action or else the word in not in you. You cannot be the doer except the word dwells in you.
  • With us everywhere – the Bible says, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word” (Ps. 119:9). Our Bible must always be around us; on our home altar, in our car/s, in our places of work, by this, we are aware of the presence of it every moment. It warns us, and in keeping it, there is great reward (Ps. 19:7-11).

What is Christian peace?

Christian peace is tranquility – quietness and undisturbed. This is the type of peace that God gave David after the Lord had subdued all his enemies. The same peace the Lord gave Isaac in the land of Gerra when he reaped in hundred fold while famine was ravaging the whole land.

christian peace Christian peaceChristian peace is not a human design type of peace, but that which is given from above to those who do the will of God. The peace from above is a gift to all who put their trust in the Lord. It is not that, which the world wants to achieve at the destruction or detriment of others. Or a conditional peace from individual to one another.

Peace is a gift from God

Christian peace is a gift from the Lord, He said,

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (Jn. 14:27).

This is peace, that which does not give heartache, emotional distress or unnecessary fear. The peace the world gives put a person or nation under tribute or servitude.

The Lord said,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jer. 29:11).

The reason why the peace of God eluded the Israelite was because; they disobeyed the commandments of God. They did not put their trust in Him but on foreign gods, and on the military power of other nations.

How to receive peace

Through love:

Love for God and others prevents inhibition of bitterness, resentment, enmity and hatred. These unpleasant ingredients causes emotional distress, which result to dreaded diseases and sicknesses – heart attack, depression, hypertension – lack of inner peace, a state of mental and spiritual breakdown.

Through obedience:

“Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble” (Ps.119:165).

All the laws are condensed into these two great commandments, to love God and to love your neighbor. To love God is to obey his commandments; and to obey God’s commandments is to love others. One of the greatest rewards for obeying God’s commandments, is the gift of peace, you cannot stumble.

Be content:

“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.” (1Tim. 6:6-8)

Embrace all the fruit of spirit:

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Reward of Christian peace

When you have peace, you are secured roundabout. You are free from physical and spiritual war. You are free from any form of conflict, be it within or outside the body. You are divinely healthy.

Finally, work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (Heb. 12: 14)

Who is a true Christian father?  Each time someone mentions father, it reminds me of the way I use to see my biological father when I was growing up, from my childhood to the time I went to a boarding school. When I think back, I want to appreciate the role my father played in shaping my life to be who I am today.

christian father Who is a true Christian father? My father was a farmer, a child of a farmer, but a farmer with a difference. Why is he different? His father had no opportunity to send any of his children to school. However, in his own days, he had the opportunity and he made use of it by sending all his children to school. He foresees the advantages of educating his children in order to fit into the envisaged ever-improving civilization society.

Unlike his counterparts, he struggled with all he had to sponsor his children to school. The future of the children was his concern, making sure that they become somebody in life; and that they fit into the future ever-changing world.

Are all fathers thinking about what makes them to be a father? It is because they have something attached to them that makes someone called them a father. It is because a child is committed to the care of a man before that man can become a father. The child who is committed to the care of the man came to being through a woman, who has gone into a relationship with the man who will soon be called, a father.

Therefore, for a man to be called a father there must be the presence of a woman and a child. A father is a man who has a child born to him by a woman. The child, which is the fruit of the union between the man and woman, is a precious gift from God to the two (Ps.127:3-5). The child is committed to the care of the parents of which the man (father) has the greater responsibility of the task.

Since children are God’s gift, and has planted them inside the womb of the woman to be taking care of by the biological parents when the child is born; then God who is the creator and the giver, is the greater Father. That is why our Lord Jesus, taught us to pray to our Father who is in heaven (Matt. 6:9), our Father in the Spirit. Therefore, we have our greater Father in heaven and our biological father (father by birth).

If our biological father would give all within his given power to take care of his children which is committed to him, and to plan for a better future for them, how much more would our Father in heaven provide for the future and care of these children.

Therefore, our earthly father’s first responsibility is to take care of what has been committed to his care by our heavenly Father. This comprises himself, the wife and the children born to him by the wife. The Bible admonishes Christians to take care of their families (1Tim. 5:8). Only a man who takes care of his wife and children is a Christian father.

A Christian Father’s responsibility

This present age where spiritual and moral decadence has covered the face of earth, many Christian fathers are not living up to their expectation. Many Christian fathers have left their responsibilities for the women who are supposed to be their helpers and for outside world to shape their children. Fathers have lost their respect and honor due to them especially, when they abandon their wife to care for the children alone.

Christian father’s responsibilities

  • Train the child

The first responsibility of the father is to train the child born unto him in the way of the Lord. The Christian father is an instrument in God’s hand to work on His behalf. The Bible admonishes “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Pro. 22:6). There is an adage, which says, “Fold a palm leaf when it is fresh and green; when it dries, it crumbles”. A child is better trained when young, not after becoming an adult. Training involves four things

1.     Biblical doctrinal teaching – knowledge of Christian standard cannot be compromised.

2.     Discipline – limit scolding to wickedness; however, spare not the rod.

3.     Correction – counsel them by the word of God always, forgiving and setting them on good track again.

4.     Instruction in righteousness – Teaches his child the reverence due unto God, and the respect for parental authority.

The training must be carried out without offending the child.

  • Love the child

A Christian father must love his child; the kind of love that our Father in heaven have for us. Father must spend time with his child. He must reason with the child, listening and understanding, thereby, bringing good relationship between them. Your child will turn out to be a child of God. Do not show any favoritism among your children.

  • Care for the child

A Christian father must be a caring person, protecting and providing for the needs of the house. When I was young, I remember my father would not eat until the whole house had eaten. Be proud of your child, this will boost his/her moral.

  • Ensures child’s education

A Christian father must place priority on the education of his child. In this jet age where things go faster than imagination, an ideal level of education for any child is a bachelor degree. A good father would want his child to be greater than him.

  • Be a role model

A Christian father is to be a role model in the upbringing of his child. Mortify your previous acts, which are sinful so that your child does not emulate. A father’s role today is more desirable than ever.

  • Prayerful

A Christian father must be prayerful, teaching the children how to be in good relationship with God. He commands blessing upon his children. He establishes a spiritual atmosphere at home.

Before a man gets married, he needs to accept the role of leadership and be ready to discharge the responsibilities expected of him as the head of the house.
