“Be ye unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?
and what communion hath light with darkness?
“And what concord hath Christ with belial?
or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
“…wherefore come out from among them
and be ye separate, saith the Lord
and touch not the unclean things;
And I will receive you” (2Cor. 6:14-17)

The quickest way by which a born again Christian can be caught by the devil’s enticement is, when that Christian still parades the devil’s territory – that old place where he/she used to commit sin. Satan likes to send people’s memories back to where they have bid bye, or what they have renounced. He places before them something better than the devil’s delicacies derived from the old activities or something that will sprout bitterness and wickedness act out of their professed Christianity.

What are those things that you have renounced? What are those things that you have forsaken? Are they permanently forsaken or not? I know it is not that easy to leave an avenue of enjoyment while it is still buoyant, and to start a new one, especially, those that are derived from illegal operations or through committed sins. However, the grace of God can help if a Christian is determined to leave it.
For instance, a born again Christian who used to be a drunkard must stop going to the beer parlor, clubhouse, and bar or stop to buy soda drink at the liquor store. One of the best ways that a Christian can remain focused, living a life that is worthy and approved of God is to avoid the devil’s territory. Some of these devil’s territories could be in form of the followings.
• Old evil associates
• Old sinful depots
• Old behavior and characters
• Renounced activities
• Violence and war zone;
• Lusts of flesh, eye, taste and of the mind and
• Revelry activities (festivities, celebrations, carousing, partying, casino etc)
• Cultic society
• Worldly society
• Family tradition and custom

Dissociate from old evil friends/gangs

Seeing old friends or those that you used to hang out with when you were still in the ‘world’ may hinder your total submission to the new life in Christ. Each time you are with them, there is that urge that tends to persuade you to try the old behavior or practices again.

After I had renounced adultery, alcohol and playing of draft (checkers) in the public, one day, I visited a friend in his work place, this I do every day during my break time at work. On this very day, I was playing draft with my friend under the shade of a tree in front of his workshop. Not quite two minutes that I got there, two ladies came to visit him, they were pretty, and there were no other person there except my friend and I. Five minutes later, my friend was excused from that place by someone else and I was left alone with these two ladies. If this situation were to be before my renunciation of adultery, I would have been pushed to woo one of these ladies. For more than twenty minutes, my friend was gone, living me alone with these ladies. Anyone who sees me would conclude that one of them was my girl, or to worsen the matter, a church member would see me as a fake born again Christian, ‘captured’ with two girls.

Dissociate from old friends and environment that is devilish and not befitting for a Christian, if you do not want to be confronted with a situation that beckons you to look or come back to your old practices.

The devil is no respecter of any body, if he caught you after you have escaped from him previously, he will not release you and he will destroy you. This is one reason you have to be spirit filled every moment when you have been born again.
The decision to be born again is totally yours and attainable only by the grace of God, and not by your power nor by the influence of the society. Many have received the gospel and have rejected it, while some are yet to make up their minds to receive it or not. The only way you can grow is to be dedicated and be focus and do not allow any distraction of the devil or bewitched by any devil’s territory. Believe in the gospel and abide in the commandments, instructions and Christian doctrine of the Apostles. Do not allow any family, society, friends, and the ways of the world to distract or change what you have believed. This is why it is necessary to change direction from the old ways. If it is possible, change town, friends, work, church if you find any problem with your present one, and many other things you have to change to enable you enjoy the new life in Christ.
